Our fan sounds like it is going to launch and fly the laptop soon, the keyboard gets reallly hot and it always if on a airflow, the ports to attach things work 25 % of the time and wont charge anythng and the mouse now works 75 % of the time.LOL.

We use for schoolwork, pictures, movies and so on. We like fast, good battery and multiple of things. I used to do alot of writing and was working on a book at one time.

The noise that you think is an internal cooling fan might be the hard drive....that was the case with my recently departed Toshiba - it served me well for 7+ years - and the reason it finally died was virus infection, not a hardware failure.

I bought new Toshiba laptop about 3 weeks ago. It is my 6th Toshiba laptop over the last 19 years. I doubt I'll ever buy another brand simply because of my own experience with their machines. Some of my colleagues buy other brands due to expressed appreciation of good customer service. Toshiba may well have excellent customer service, but I can't say for sure...I've never had to use it!

Did you use spyware?
I have AVG and comodo firewall. Plus if you save your documents wont you transfer the virus to your new puter?
Thank you so far, which Toshiba did you get?

I had both McAfee firewall and Windows firewall enabled. I had AVG running, and the virus still found a way onto my machine. The virus blocked access to all three of the anti-virus programs I had so I couldn't do a scan and removal. It blocked access to sysem restore too, so that wasn't an option. I'm not going to network the old laptop to the new one until or unless I pay a professional to remove the virus.

I was going to buy a new laptop in a couple months anyway. This just moved the purchase date up. I bought this Toshiba, Open Box - New Toshiba Satellite L655-S5101 at Tech For Less It's a great machine and the price was much less than what I thought I was going to have to spend.
Holy Crap Bob taht is awdul, I have AVG, Comodo, Windows. I had Norton but thought it sux. THanks for the link.
Wait, don't buy a new laptop just yet, unless money is not an issue for you. My motto is to keep "old Betsy" alive. When a fan runs at high speeds that tells me that your processor is overheating, which also causes the processor speed to slow dramatically. The remedy might be to reapply thermal grease. Thermal grease helps to transfer the heat onto the heat sync which the fan blows out of the motherboard. This youtube video illustrates how to reapply the thermal grease. youtube video #1 A tube of thermal grease costs anywhere from $7 to $12.

Another problem that I suspect is that your processor needs to be upgraded. If you have a single core you might want to consider a core 2 duo. This is a youtube video about how to replace your processor. youtube video #2 An intel core 2 duo processor can be as cheap as $54, see this link newegg link

One last upgrade I would recommend is a RAM (memory) upgrade. This youtube video will show you how to replace it, youtube video #3 [L=youtube video #3 RAM memory can be as cheap as $34, for instance 8 GB of RAM such as this, 8 GB RAM

For less than $100, your laptop could be brought back to life and attain speeds comparable to a new one.
The best machine available is building a Thinkpad on Lenovo.com

I thought the word was prices on laptops will be going down due to so many people buying those IPad things
