The problem with US expansion is either your city is going to go gaga for the NHL or just see it as a fun night out once a year. In Canada its always the former. The problem with Las Vegas is that most of its adult population is from somewhere else (like Tampa, Fl). Thse people tend to be patriotic to the teams from whence they came .... Its not a recipe for an engaged fan base.
Seattle is out for now because our local city politicans of bumbling morons, and refused a great arena deal that would have had the city only loan some of the money for it which was guaranteed to be paid back.
The NHL wants to be here (in Seattle) BAD but there isn't an NHL suitible arena to play at.
