New York is the Friendliest City in the World

******quote******
According to a worldwide study, the most welcoming place in the world is: New York City!

New York City beat out beautiful cities in Brazil, Thailand, The Maldives and Italy to be the best… and was often referred to as the ‘Island of Magic’. “The people in New York City are so kind and friendly and nice… they are the nicest people on the planet,” said a tourist from Germany.

I've always loved my NY City trips, but the Weekly World News report is a bunch of bull shit. Many Manhattan natives are taken aback and near insulted if a friendly stranger says "good morning". I did a one year long distance relationship with a lady who lived on the Upper East Side, and I got a pretty good feel for the place. That year was very expensive.

As a native New Yawker I have found that we are willing to help tourists with directions etc. That said, when approached by a stranger my defences go up, until I understand what the person wants.

Also when I travel if a stranger says good morning, hello, etc I tend to look around to see who they are talking to.

So my answer is that we are sort of friendly (:

Thank you. While the relationship was expensive, it was very rewarding.

NYCers are very nice. Just don't bother them during rush hour.

Tourists should not be allowed out between 7am & 9am as well as 5pm to 7pm.

Put them behind a "wheel" and see how friendly they are getting over the GW Bridge or through the Holland and Lincoln tunnels. I've seen them driving on the sidewalk for christ'sake! Cabbies would just as soon put a dent in your fender as make any room. Went to the 1st U.S. Open at Bethpage Black, ask Sergio Garcia or Colin Montgomerie how friendly these folks are. Sounds good in print. Was this paid for by the NYC Tourism Council?
