Mental mistakes cost both teams that lost yesterday.

You would think after he turned the ball over from letting the ball hit his knee he would be more concious of what he was doing w the ball. He was running through a crowd of defenders with one hand on the ball.

But let's not forget, after the first fumble, Smith had a 40 yard runback that gave the 49ers great field position. Guess he thought he could repeat that rather than have another fumble.

By the way, do you ever hear of another team called the Green Bay football Packers, or the San Diego football Chargers. Of course not. My explanation of WHY they are called the NY Football Giants is exactly why they were called that. It was to prevent a mix up between the baseball NY Giants and the footbal NYl Giants. Believe me, I've been following the NY football Giants since 1954 when they shared the Polo Grounds with the baseball Giants.

I believe is was the late Marty Glickman that coined the term "NY Football Giants" as he was the announcer for the team. Howard Cossell was the one who continued the tradition of calling them by that name.

Yes it did and those two teams will dwell on that all summer long.

Kyle Williams made a really big mental error when he allowed the ball to graze his knee - they're taught to get away, get away, get away. After that, I think he was trying to make up for it with big returns. He'll learn from it.
That's not the only reason why the Niners lost. Their offense failed at third downs and had the ball to win near the end of regulation and in the ot period but could generate nothing. They had similar problems throughout the season so it was nothing new.
That said, for a long time Niner fan like myself, this season was hugely successful and is a great foundation for the next few years.
