NFL Pillow Fight (aka the Pro Bowl)

Did anyone see it? I did (part of it anyway).

What a farce. They might as well switch to a flag-football format. Even NFL Commissioner Goodell was furious and has suggested doing away with the game if the quality doesn't improve.

I understand the players desire to avoid injury in an essentially meaningless game, but c'mon, man, if it's that meaningless to you, then why play at all? They don't have to play like it's the Super Bowl, but a good lick once in a while would be nice.

Maybe the NFL could provide insurance so that if a player suffers a career-ending injury, they would be paid the equivalent of what they would have made over their career but for the injury, and career-ending injuries are very, very rare even in games where the players are going all out.

Even back in the day when the Super Bowl champs played the College All-Stars, the games were ten times more intense, since neither the pros or the college all-stars wanted to be embarassed.

C'MON, MAN!
My wife and I watched the start of the game. My wife laughed that she could play in the game and not get hurt. The Pro Bowl has always been a joke. The nature of football precludes a full speed all-star game.
I caught a couple of the highlights(a stretch of the term) and it looked pretty comical. The news guy was laughing at it saying pretty much the same thing. I saw a few plays the lineman were even pushing each other, just standing there kinda grabbing each others jersey a little. Actually i wish i woulda watched, looked like a barrel of laughs.

Madcat and I attended it and had a ball. It's a chance to see some of the greatest players in a laid back environment where what beer on tap is the real stress at the stadium. Like Arnold says in his movies -- "I'll be back"......

I can't imagine any of you really expected a physical game after so many years of the same-o same-o.

Aloha my friends.....

I still remember Robert Edwards destroying his knee and his career in an official pro bowl event a flag football game. He had a great career ahead of him.
I think they should eliminate the Pro Bowl game and us that week to add extra playoff teams and games.

yes, the big problem is that nobody wants to get injured on such a "Powderpuff" game. There have been some major injuries (blew out knee, etc) before . Many of the players look at the game as a free vacation in Hawaii for the family (not like they don't have enough money to pay for it themselves).

No need to worry much, our idiot governor came out last year that he didn't want to fund the pro bowl so unless the pro bowl comes up with something different Hawaii probably won't have the Pro bowl anyway. Idiot doesn't realize, the state only funds a few million for the game but the free publicity is worth more than those few million, especially when the SB commercials were over a million per commercial.

It was a disgrace and the game is a joke. Many of the people named all-pro always seem to have some injury or some other reason why they can't attend. Many of the players want all-pro status (for the prestige and for bonuses in their contract) but don't want to play in the game.

The NFL should consider doing something like college and just name their All Pro teams without having a Pro Bowl game.
