NFL players

and owners. Man,I'm gettin' really sick of hearing the squabbling between the two sides. Especially the players. The remark they made saying the NFL was parallel to slavery made me choke on my beer. SLAVERY???? WTF!? Hmmm, playing a game you love (supposedly anyway, but entirely diff topic alltogother),for millions of dollars, all benefits, being set for life and your comparing that to shackles and loss of freedom? Gimme a F'n break! I swear I hope the lockout continues and the friggin season is gone. Serves 'em both right to miss out on all that money.

I think both sides have completely lost sight of who it really is that makes the NFL.Its not the teams or the players, its all the people who pay 8 bucks for a slice of pizza,25 bucks parking, hundreds for sunday ticket etc, eyc. Neither one could give a flying f@ck about us. My wife and I are seriously considering dropping sunday ticket this year. I know it won't "oh ye,we'll show them" or anything, but our own little voice of displeasure.

I've been reading alot of comments on different forums and it seems this is pretty much the prevailing opinion on alol of them. I know there was a thread a week or so ago on the NFL here and opinions were given. Any new or changed views ?

J, you have it right on the head. We are the ones paying these fools and all they want is more money. If most of those folks were smart to hire someone who knew how to invest instead of one of their friends, maybe they might have something left when their playing time is done. The NFL is filled with stories of former players on the street because they were too dumb to invest all that money wisely.

The average fan pays upwards of $500 just to see a 3 hour game. Where are OUR rights? I would like to see a NFL game, but its more than likely I won't due to the outrageous cost of everything.
Apparently, WE are the culprits.

Knowing these NFL players are how they are in real life, we still are ready to shell out $500 on a game, en masse, looking at only their exploits on the field, not in real life. As long as that happens, the players will continue to demand their (higher) due.

Like Charlie Sheen--despite his widespread notoriety and erratic behavior, he stands to make a ton of money from the fact that he accumulated over 2.5 million Twitter followers in just a few days.

So, look not at anyone else, look within. WE are empowering this type of behavior.
If all this press that football is getting and all talks between owners and players ends in a strike the fans need to strike right back upon return. Let colleges jockey their schedules around and give you Sunday College football. Billionaires and millionaires are doing nothing but kicking fans square in the face and laughing all the way to the bank. I wonder how much effect the current economy will have on the average fan attendance. The people you feel sorry for are those employed at the stadium and all the restaurants and hotels that are located around where the games are being played.

Oh, you must be referring to the owners. Because it's the owners - literally - who are holding out for more money. The players association and the owners negotiated an agreement a few years ago, and it's the owners who are now saying they had their fingers crossed while doing so. Hence a lockout, NOT strike.

The players association isn't asking for a penny more than the current agreement.

But the owners OWN the teams. The players have a choice, accept their bosses offer, or get a real job. In this job market, the players better start thinking.

Very simple.
The NFL is a monopoly that is why the owners simply can’t do as they please. Imagine (for example) all the organizations in the Unites States that hire computer programmers suddenly coming together and entering an agreement among themselves where computer programmers couldn’t be paid anymore than x, and furthermore they forbid their employees from switching from one employer to another.

It's a little known fact that during the off season NFL players are eligible for state unemployment.

I think it's little known because it's not true.
Snidely, you beat me to the punch. Word by word even.
