Handed in my two week notice a couple of weeks ago and yesterday was my last day. Got the normal, thanks for everything, great working with you, blah, blah, blah. Where were these pats on the back six months ago that would have made me want to stay.
Last Monday, they told me to go see the person that does the exit interview. She hands me a paper to fill out that would only take me about five minutes to do. I tell her that it will take a lot more time than that. I go in on my off day and she hands me the same paper work. It has a little bitty section at the bottom for "additional comments". I tell her that that is not enough room for what I have to say so she gives me one extra sheet of paper. I tell her to give me one more.
I let them have it. Both barrels blazing. I told the truth though. I know it's not going to do me any good, but maybe it will help my other friends that are still working there. She kind of skimms over what I wrote, and I get the "another disgrunteled employee" look on her face. I tell her that I really didn't want to quit but I am just so totaly "burned out" from 17 years of the same job every day that that was my only out. I also told her that I had asked for help and was told " shut up and go back to work". If I was on drugs or had a drinking problem, I could ask for help and get it without question. She tells me that she was going to pass it on the the management team. I ask her if they would contact me about it and she just sat there with no response. I guess that means as soon as I walk out of her office, she's pitching it in the trash can.
17 years. I met a lot of great people in that time, but I also met a lot of total assholes too. I guess it evens out in the long run. I just have to take the good from them with me and throw the rest in the shitter.
I've got two business going so I won't be hurting for money. Not having to put in the 40 hours a week at the casino will free me up to expand them and make more money. One of the things that I wil be doing is adding trivia nights to my business offerings. Found out a few years ago what the charge the bars in the area for doing this and it's crazy money for two hours work. I have the questions and answers from every "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" ever aired at my fingertips, so those will be easy to set up for me. I'm going to a charity "Mouse Race" event Saturday night with some friends and checking out how to run those. What I'll be doing is offering smaller bars, ones that are too little to offer live music, an entertainment option for their customers.
I'll be more than fine.
