No way to get into a war...

RULE #1:

Never, ever tell the enemy you are coming.

RULE#2:

Never, ever tell the enemy when you are coming.

RULE#3:

Never, ever tell the enemy what weapons you are going to use to attack them with.

RULE#4:

Never, ever tell the enemy you are not going to follow through with all you've got to win.

RULE# 5: Never share with congress a stupid attack plan and make it public. Advise and consent should be the norm.

We're a democracy. Shared responsibility and deliberation are the underpinnings of our form of government. We talk about stuff.

Authoritarian dictatorships definitely have their advantages, particularly when it comes to warmaking. But on balance, those systems are not worth the cost.
