Now it's extra credit

Now colleges are handing out extra credit for attending protest! WTH. Aren't colleges ssupposed to be a place of learning, not school promoted political discourse, These kids aren't learning the courses they need but more being indoctrinated by the personal beliefs of the all the liberal profs. Didn't they used to call that brainwashing? I was just annoyed with all the other stuff (play doh, puppies and such) but this kida pisses me off.

Seems when I went to school it was extremely improper for a school to get involved in political dissension of any sort, they were supposed to be a neutral entity with the teachers being the same. We were there to LEARN all different courses, history, stats, business, english, and poly sci. among others, not any bullshit classes with profs spouting off about their leftist beliefs, indoctrinating their students. I also would guess they give the CNN or msnbc version of things, shoot wouldn't be surprised if huff post and tia tequilla were thrown in there as well among others.

This really is BS, schools are for learning, not indoctrination.

This is our future.....{sighhh }

From The Pitt Maverick:

.." The University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work encouraged its professors to offer students extra credit to participate in a radical leftist rally in downtown Pittsburgh.

On Thursday, students enrolled in Pitt’s School of Social Work along with faculty received an email urging them to sign up for “A People’s Agenda for Change: National Day of Action” on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The email, which Student Services Specialist and assistant to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Mary Patricia Elhattab sent, implored professors to give their students extra credit should they attend.

Lindsey Hern, a senior Social Work major, said that she receives a lot of similar, “one-sided” emails, and that she regularly feels alienated as one of the only conservatives in the department.

“It’s really ostracizing when your own department sanctions an event that is so exclusive to one set of students,” Hern told The Pitt Maverick.

Not only do Leftist students get extra credit, they get free transportation via the school to downtown Pittsburgh to get their violence on. According to the email, the march is about “taking a stand to say that Pittsburgh will not accept business as usual” as well as challenging the “rigged economy.” There is also a link to the sign-up page provided in the email. “People in every city in the country will be taking to the streets to raise the minimum wage, help workers organize, support undocumented workers, fight climate change and confront structural racism and sexism,” the email reads..."

Maybe we should all go and protest all the cupcakes being our future and how worried we are
Thanksgiving is a day for celebrating all you are thankful for. A day of National Unity.
Take a moment and celebrate all that's good in your life and don't spend your time trying to put down strangers.
Time to make our land a better place.
You're are correct bere billy, but I have a little down time, birds in the oven, wifes in the shower son is playing trivia crack with his g/f. I got on here to do some shopping but saw the extra credit thing, thought it was worth mentioning as it's crossing the line.

Happy thanksgiving all.
I tend to agree. If it was an assignment to study the nature of civil protests then it might be warranted - but if its a sanctioned political viewpoint by the department then I think it should be called out.

It's a school for Social Work. I would expect them to get involved in actual field operations. How else do they get real life experience?
Billy - they could of always volunteer
Yes, they could but I don't have a problem with them offering extra credit. Perhaps if it was mandatory, I could see a problem.
I would wager that a School of Social Work would tilt tremendously to the left, so a conservative will have to grin and bear it. Just as a Socialist would in an MBA class.

I concur that it is worth a mention. It reflects generational evolution. In my day (when dinos roamed the earth) "basket weaving", and later "underwater basket weaving" were spoken of as electives one could take to pad credits needed to graduate.

I never actually observed any such classes. I do know one could take golf for a semester, even if one didn't intend to pursue golfing further, but it was good for a credit hour or two. From my perspective, this would be much more interesting and perhaps useful in later life than attending a protest. But, JMHO.

Oh sure, right along with the play doh and coloring books type mentality? That'll really get them ready for real life experience, but that's alright, you missed the whole point anyway.

Remember billy, readingIS fundamental.
