The Oasis Motel - This place makes the old Gold Spike look like a 5 star resort

From today's LVA shorts:

November 4, 2012 14:58 Motel Shut Down for Vice: The Oasis Motel, located at 1731 Las Vegas Blvd. South (between Sahara and Wyoming), has been shut down indefinitely due to what Las Vegas City Council describes as "unabated prostitution," plus numerous other violations, reports the R-J. Existing guests are allowed to complete their stay, but new guests cannot be admitted.

This is the motel where poker legend Stu Unger took his life. I looked up a couple of stories on it and found the following:

OASIS MOTEL

The Oasis Motel in Las Vegas in run down, shabby, and not the safest place. This is the type of property that caters to hookers and crack smokers. The reason the Oasis Motel make sour list is because of it's history. The Oasis Motel is where poker great Stu "The Kid" Ungar died.

There is not much else to say about the Oasis Motel. Just make sure you check you mattress for hidden syringes before plopping down on it.

Oasis Motel- Las Vegas, NV murder scene
I went to the Oasis Motel today to take some pictures of the "haunted room" (as featured on ghost hunters) and it turned out a murder had occurred this morning in room 1. A guy staying there who was obviously tweaked out along with the front desk guy who also seemed under the influence told me a woman was found dead in the room with blood "all over the place' The tweaked out guy said he saw all the cops outside his room(#2) so he went and "hid his stash"...the front desk guy said this wasn't uncommon since it was a "drug motel". I took a picture of the room and left at a high rate of speed.

But is there a resort fee?
"Existing guests are allowed to complete their stay, but new guests cannot be admitted."

I would think most of the guests would only be there for a few hours

Need to make two laps around this motel at night as part of the ghetto walk.

Not that many years ago often stayed at dumps like this because of their low rates. Still mourning the demise of the old Western Hotel on East Fremont. Those $16 a night rates even on weekends and holidays were rock bottom even back then for cheapskates like myself.

I would hesitate to take a black light into a room at this place. You'd probably go running and screaming when it lit up like the Las Vegas strip.
So is the Oasis considered a "seedy motel"???

Must admit, I have never read a "trip report" that states that any LVA have stayed there!

Probably "reaks" the smell of sex! I shudder to even think of such a "motel 6" kinda feeling!

Maybe when the Oasis ad calls for we "will leave the light on" they really mean the "black light"

NO, I think the "porno movies" come with the 30 minute and longer rate!

Probably depends if it is an MGM resort or a Harrahs Joint???

That is a good question though
Didn't know what to make of the title of this thread at first, the Gold Spike actually calls its motel section around the pool out back "The Oasis". Think it used to be called the Travel Inn.

But the Ogden House, at $18 a night was always a cleaner and better deal.
