From my perspective, any sentence that begins

Liberals this or that or ...
Conservatives that or this ...

are summarily dismissed from any thoughtful discourse.

Exactly right. The reason they do it is they aren't interested in thoughtful discourse. If they think they can win by claiming their opponents are "Racist, Radical, Extremist, Commie, Crooked, Cheating, Whacky, Freeloading, Unscientific Woman Haters....then that's a lot easier than actually making a case, arguing a position or suggesting a compromise or improvement. Negative politics works...unfortunately. But I think the American people will eventually tire of it. At least I hope they will.

If Mush's life depends it, and you have to lead one team of basketball and one team of debate to victory, how how are you going to split up the ten black kids and the ten whites kids that you have never met? Remember, you know nothing but skin color and your life depends on two wins.

Will you generalize? Will you assume? I generalize on this site more than I do in real life to make a point.

So you're no longer claiming that Kennedy was a conservative.

I did say Mallibber would claim Kennedy was a conservative extremist. He called Mitt Romney an extremist because he suggested Tax cuts! Like Kennedy.

You keep trying to portray your Republican opposition as Right Wing 'Extremists' and 'Radicals'....Guys like War Hero John McCain and Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney....(The guy you think invented Obamacare).

It's an old propaganda tactic....take the views of some and associate it with all. It's the same thing Boilerman does when he claims Democrats are all crooks and cheats....so you're in good company.

alanleroy, you'll never believe this, but liberal Senator Sherrod Brown just criticized President Obama. More proof that Obama is conservative, at least according to your Kennedy-is-a-conservative methodology, and according to your sources. You know, your source who also said that Iraq War protesters should be tried for treason, and your other source who said that anti-marriage equality bigots are just like Freedom Riders during the civil rights struggle.

Dude, you are such a centrist!

If American Voters are 'Centrist' and the 'Extremist Republicans' just handed the Democratic party the biggest midterm loss in 64 years...Either the Voters are actually extremist or they don't believe Democrats are centrist for one minute. I'm betting on the latter.

Or perhaps it is the extreme gerrymandering done by Republicans in states all across the nation. The latest study I have seen shows in order to take the House the Democrats would have to win the popular House vote by 10%. That would be like the NFL saying in the Superbowl the AFC team starts off with 14 points.

The gerrymandering also has the effect of making the most extreme right wing candidate more likely to win. Modern House elections are almost like Soviet Politburo elections.

Gosh. Democrats lost the Senate to those pesky 'extremist' republicans too. And they trail in Governorships 30 - 18. Those must be the extremist 30 states.

I don't even know why I'm defending Republicans against these smears. I've never been registered as one and I'm an admitted radical on many issues like huge cuts in the military, decriminalizing possession and use of all drugs and a constitutional amendment for a balanced budget (You consider that radical, right?). It's time to let those pesky 'radical' Republicans in the room defend themselves if they wish.

Both governorships and the Senate are biased toward small states; i.e. Mississipp gets as many senators as California. The 46 Democratic Senators have received a total of 20 million MORE votes than the 54 Republicans.
About a third of Republicans nationally who plan to vote in the primaries say that "The government is trying to take over Texas." And another 28% aren't sure.

Radical? Extremist? Mentally ill? Take your pick.

I was talking about the House Alan I thought I made that clear. And there is no denying that the gerrymandering gets a lot of right wingers with fringe views elected to House. This is in a nutshell why we have a difficult time governing the country right now. You have the House clogged up with people that represent a fringe minority. In 2012 Republicans lost the popular vote in the House but ended up controlling it. People voted for a Democratically controlled Senate, President and House but they got a house ran by a bunch of right wing loons that claimed they had a mandate for their extremist views. They had a 32 seat majority after loosing the popular vote by a million votes.
In 2014 the democrats lost the House vote by 4.5m votes, garnering only 45.5% of the vote. Democrats only have 18 governors
