The Nordic countries do much better than the US, when it comes to health, life expectancy, education, infant mortality, upward mobility, and poverty. Especially upward mobility. If you're poor and you want to live the American dream - move to Denmark.

I believe it's more from the cultures than any type of govt. What about Japan, they have a much longer life span and they're the epitome of capitalism.

Of course you are a proud socialist...and I commend you for that. And forkie is too. Although not as proud as you. I hope you both hop on the Bandwagon for Bernie as he seems to best represent your views.

I like Bernie a lot and I support him in the primary. I am realistic though and don't think he has much of chance of winning so I will support the Democratic Party's nominee whomever that may be. However, I am delighted he is in the race as it will edge Hillary to the left and he will force the candidates to talk about the issues that are important to me.

Really? No matter who they are and what they might have to say? You don't even want to listen to any debates? WOW. Talk about your blind faith.

Dear stupid person,

I'm with Reagan on banning assault rifles, immigration reform (and issuing executive orders to prevent deportations), and separation of church and state. I'm with Mitt Romney, circa 2010, and Bob Dole on mandated national health insurance, and with Harry Truman on national health insurance also. I'm with President George W. Bush on immigration reform, and with 100% of the Republican Senators in 2004 on the need for a Voting Rights Act.

I'm with President Eisenhower on the need to fund colleges, limit the military-industrial complex, support labor unions, and preserve Social Security. And I'm with the old honorable John McCain, not the current dishonorable one, on immigration reform, campaign finance reform, and the belief that religious bigots like Jerry Falwell are bad for the America.

And I'm with the majority of US citizens on a whole raft of issues such as marriage equality, getting rid of the drug war, campaign finance reform, raising the minimum wage, and so on.

So which of the above beliefs do you find extremist? I can't wait to find out!

Forkie disagrees with THE Obama????...
First, let's note that you couldn't find ONE position that I hold that could be considered extremist. While over half of GOP voters think that Obama is trying or might be trying to take over Texas. Extremist much?

But as far as me disagreeing with Obama, yes I do. On failing to fight for single payer health insurance, failing to prosecute torturers, the Trans Pacific Partnership, caving on extending the ruinous Bush tax cuts, failing to prosecute criminals on Wall Street, failure to exact conditions for the Wall Street Bailout, failure to withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan quicker, the extension of the Patriot Act, and his appointments to run the departments of Education and Commerce. This is a partial list.

But at least Obama isn't a radical extremist...like a lot of those Republicans.

You're still doting on the ridiculous idea that GOP voters are thinking Obama is trying to take over Tx.? How fuckin' gullible can one get, and yea, yea, I saw your poll. I don't believe it. Not one bit. I can't see anyone else falling for it, well Mal is quite the conspiracy orientd type. It's such an absurd thought. Seriously, I'd be embarrassed to post such a thing, LET ALONE, keep on touting it.

Extremist conspiracy thinking?...NAH...

I have read the Constitution 1000s of times and there is no mention of "corporate rights" anywhere in it. Yet 80% of our court system's time and 80% of our legislative time is spent on working on issues for corporations. The only true traitors are the ones that have turned their back on the principals this nation was founded upon. The primary author of our Constitution thought that inherited wealth and corporations were the greatest evil facing this country. I think it would be good to go back to our roots in this regard.

Here is a little something by another socialist:
For I agree with you that there is a natural aristocracy among men. The grounds of this are virtue and talents.... There is also an artificial aristocracy founded on wealth and birth, without either virtue or talents... The artificial aristocracy is a mischievous ingredient in government, and provision should be made to prevent it's ascendancy. Thomas Jefferson

Ya know, I've really thought about your post Mal and I agree with you, somewhat. Somewhat being the key word. Some co.s have gotten so huge, it's killed a lot of small town businesses. Wally world is a prime example. When they set up in a town, pretty much every small mom and pop business goes under. I for one think WMT is an evil empire and will never set foot in one(unless I absolutely positively have to) Last time I went in one to find something, I hunted down three different people and not a one of them could understand me or what I was looking for, I guess "sump pump" was too difficult a word.
What are ya gonna do tho, we live in a capitalists society and they have every right to open as many stores as they want and kill all they business they want. I have my wife do the once a month sundry shopping at Target and I do all other shopping local, I do however shop at home depot but I give my little ace hardware store a good amount of business also. I can only vote with my money.

I suggest you do the same, HD, COST and there's some others who are responsible corp owners IMO, vote with youyr wallet.

The thing is we don't really live in a capitalist society anymore. We now live under would I would call a corporatist society. It isn't about having a bunch of competitors on a level playing field it is about having only a handful or maybe even as few as one big player in each market. In other words the objective has become market control through lobbying and rule making not competing by trying to make the best product or provide the best service.

Back in the old days (1980s) we used to break up corporations that got too large and gained too much control over the marketplace. Now we pat them on the back and ask them what else can we taxpayers do for you? We don't even have the willpower to break up the big banks that caused the financial crisis making it likely we will have to bail them out again because they even bigger now than they were when they were deemed too big to fail.

Who has a monopoly over any one area? Not even wally world does, they at least have target and sears holding. I was absolutely positively for a break up of the banks after the '08 fiasco. That they were left to stand alone and deemed "too big to fail" in the own govt.s words is completely beyond me. I believe it will be the makings of another disaster, probably not as bad but not good. I don't think there is any more bailing out, who the hell is going to bail the US out of this hole Obama has put us in? Is it 20 T yet? If not, it's close. The banks are on there own. Actually I thought a few of them should have been able to go bankruptcy..

I will say that corporate America now controls almost all the congressman, they should be wearing their corp sponsor patches like nascar drivers do, and don't fool yourself, it's dems and reps alike, any other thinking is completely misguided.Just ask forky.
