Obama Planning to invade Texas and turn WalMarts into FEMA Camps

jatki99, alanleroy,
I agree with both of you. I also agree it is not exclusively a Republican problem. jatki99 you asked for an example so I will give you one Google. They control over 80% of the Internet Search Market in the U.S. If you're a small business and you want to sell products on the Internet. You woulden't be able to do so (in any volume) without paying Google mafia like payments to be seen.

When I started out on the Internet back in 1998-99 anybody could compete with very little capital. The internet was full of little mom and pop type business that didn't have any physical presence. You literally can't do that anymore. Google will tell you the only place for your business is in local search and that you have to have a physical storefront. Oh and you have to send them lots of $$$.

I disagree, nobody is forced to use google to search anything. There's yahoo, explorer , firefox and a few others I believe.I'm not a big fan of googles tentacles, but people do have a choice there. Unless I'm ignorant of something.

I remember Vegasrex had a huge disdain for google and I remember a post he made when he stated "Today I have finally gotten everything google off of my computer". It seemed to be a big deal for him.
It is not about users being forced to use it. It is about small business not being allowed to compete in the marketplace. And as I said before Google controls access to 80% of the market. So if you're a business and you want to be seen you have to pay the shake down money.

Why? Is the internet the only way to advertise? Aren't there other avenues? I took quite a few classes in marketing/advertising while in school. The internet isn't the end all be all for how people shop. I think you're a little miffed because google is stiffing you to publish your stuff? I dunno.

There are other ways to advertise, but if you have an Internet based business advertising on radio and in Newspaper isn't really going to help you. I used to spend anywhere from 300k - 500k with Google year in and year out and I can honestly say they were slimiest, most underhanded and deceitful people I have every worked with. The European Union recently ruled that they were indeed slimy, deceitful and underhanded. The Obama FTC found the same thing, but Obama ignored the findings and said, "well as long as they promise to play nice in the future were aren't going to punish them for their illegal behavior."

Which would fall under the heading of corporate cronyism.

Well, the Google PAC did give over 3/4 of a million to Obama. And that's just what is on the record.

Damn, if you were spending half a mil for access or whatever, how much were you grossing? If it was only 550k I can understand the gripe, but if you were bringing in 1.5 or 2 mil, isn't that part of the cost of doing business? Roll with it and see how else you could reduce costs. If you have no other costs I need to brush up on my erotica writing skills.
I don't think you're telling the whole story somehow Mal. Not that I'm defending Googles reach but I'd really like to know more details. You're kinda sounding like drmill and his continuous bitch about resort fees(no offense my friend). You do have a tendency to really get on big businesses.

In a typical year I would profit 150 to 180k. My beef isn't that I paid them my beef is my dedicated Ad Words rep called me one day and said we love you, but we don't want your business any more. It wasn't just limited to me, as they kicked everyone out the program that was marketing other people's products. What it boiled down to was big players were pissed that us little independent operators could blow their doors off because we were consistently better than them at marketing.

So Google turned upside down everything it had told us for years about the most relevant ads being the ones that got the most clicks and rigged the game for corporate America.

That is my personal beef with them. My non personal beef with them is that they are basically screwing everybody now. Things that used to be organic (free) listings you now have to pay for.
I am aware that Google is a big beneficiary of Democratic corporate cronyism.

Hmm..I see your beef.

I do remember seeing some European judgement against them for something on CNBC. I didn't pay much attention to it, I don't have anything to do with them financially, but I do generally pay attention on what's happening big picture. I need to read up on this a bit.
