Back to your chart - what happened in 1973? Isn't that around the time trade was normalized with China? Hourly compensation in China is 10% or less than America. Since the global labor market is governed primarily by Supply and Demand, a huge supply of low-cost labor in China will slow the growth of hourly compensation around the world. How do people get ahead in this environment? They compete! They learn more, work harder, and the winners get ahead. That is how capitalism works. Socialism is a great idea until you run out of other people's money to spend.
So, a lot of people suddenly got lazy in 1973?
