The obscenity of resort fees

I see from the LVA news that many joints (NYNY) have resort fees higher than I will be paying for my rooms at the Plaza and IP-$22 and $24.
What's next-$10 rooms and $90 resort fees?

I speculate whether escalating "resort fees" may be one way for the hotels, through the use "creative accounting" or "creative pricing", to avoid/reduce a % of room taxes paid to the city and state.

melbedewey and road trip - I believe that both of your comments are correct. I will never stay at a property that charges a resort fee.
Here we go again---the government will have to come in like they recently did with airlines and tell them to just put the entire thing together and stop the false advertising of a room price. I refuse to stay at a property that charges them until I'm forced to with all others joining the forces. How about not even giving these properties any action would even work faster. Las Vegas is shooting itself in the foot daily with all the increases they are throwing out there. food--shows---rooms (resort fees)---airfare---rental cars---gas--and just about anything else they can increase. I still remeber when Obama said we would experience changes but who would have ever thought this.

They should do the same for rental cars....seems like its $9.99 a day to rent and then $30 on top in fees!

I love the charge for recovery fee like I'm not going to return the car. HELLO!!!!!!!!!!
They gotta make money somehow..which doesn't mean you have to like it.
I booked my last stay at the Palazzo Hotel through Vegas.com. When I checked in I was informed that I still had to pay the Palazzo for their daily resort fees. Be aware. It appears that none of the discount hotel sites, include resort fees in what they charge you.
I guess you have to go to Harrah's hotels that don't charge "fees". total BS as far as I'm concerned. Put the actual price that you have to pay in print and let the public decide whether it's worth it or not.

You would think that with Southwest charging no baggage fees, and advertising it all over the world, that these other airlines would follow suit and get rid of theirs, but I guess they are making so much money with these extra fees, that they might never get rid of them. However, I'm planning to take a trip to Ft. Lauderdale next week, and SWA is almost twice the cost of other airlines. Never saw that before. It would cost me almost $600 to fly round trip on SWA, while I can get a $311 round trip on either United, Continental or America. I can't believe that SWA isn't matching them in price.

I agree. When I'm being charged to call the front desk, I have to wonder what else they're slipping in under the radar. (It's similar to the misdirection you find on late-night infomercials offering a second item for FREE. "Just pay separate shipping and handling" ... which, of course, will also cover the cost of manufacturing.)
