The obscenity of resort fees

Resort fees should in my estimation be priced right in with the hotel rate. Screw that damn * that shows that the $59. price you nailed on the internet is actually $79

I don't really care for more "regulations" but this is just a BS way of hiking the night stay price!

Oh yes they do show the additional fees in the "fine print" which nowdays is so frickin small you need a magnifying glass to read anyway.

You would think that with Southwest charging no baggage fees, and advertising it all over the world, that these other airlines would follow suit and get rid of theirs, but I guess they are making so much money with these extra fees, that they might never get rid of them. However, I'm planning to take a trip to Ft. Lauderdale next week, and SWA is almost twice the cost of other airlines. Never saw that before. It would cost me almost $600 to fly round trip on SWA, while I can get a $311 round trip on either United, Continental or America. I can't believe that SWA isn't matching them in price.

It's not just Harrah's properties. I am staying at Plaza and Terrible's, neither of which charge resort fees. El Cortez doesn't have one I believe. Pretty sure MOST downtown places don't-the palatial Gold Spike Resort being the exception.

So we need MORE government intervention in the market?

Resort fees are chicken shit. No doubt. But I don't need Big Brother protecting me. I know a $25,000 car is gonna cost a lot more than that when I add in sales tax; even if I don't know the exact tax rate. And if anyone is surprised by add-on fees in the travel or any other market segment, they're simply brain dead.

Do the math. Find the one that delivers the best price. I'll book a nice place that charges $100 plus a $25 resort fee each and every time over a hole that charges a flat and fully disclosed $125. And if there's no TOT on the fee, I'm money ahead.

What's next-$10 rooms and $90 resort fees?
You would think the idiot progressives that run the NV legislature would pass a truth in hotel rates legislation instead of spending all their time thinking up ways to rob working people for the benefit of public unions, welfare queens, illegal aliens and other parasites.

Mr. Anthony Curtis and your moderators: Here is my question: How come you are so quick to delete threads that actually contain intelligent discussion by adults (i.e. the recently deleted thread on the nature and possible solutions to the U.S. national debt), and yet you allow a scumbag like melbahooey to start a thread supposedly about resort fees, and then also allow this piece of crap to go sideways, like the snake he is, and hijack his own thread to piss on "public unions, welfare queens, illegal aliens and other parasites", in order to push his Nazi political agenda?

Why is that?

Indianapaddler- I am sure that melbedewy can answer your question, but I am amazed at the question you pose. What is wrong with having the NV legislature passing a truth in hotel rates legislation? Do you think the legislature has the right to have working people pay the way for the "welfare queens and illegal aliens"?

And I suppose your anti-snake bigotry is completely innocent. I suspect you, sir, of being a roadrunner.

Legislatures don't have rights, they have powers. And yes, they do have that power.

Those Deweys sure hate resort fees.

Last time I paid $24 for a hotel room it was for an hour.
