Observing Dumb Gamblers (add your story here)

Watching a guy on a $25 VP machine putting in a hundred dollar bill and then betting 4 credits, over and over.
Pot-O-Gold Shamrock 7's.... lady was only holding the "7" cards trying to get the bonus round. Guess she didn't really know how to play but was enjoying picking the pot and bouncing to the music. I TITO'ed and left after she tossed dealt 4oaks. Too many bad vibes.
Playing Blackjack, one of the players had to leave the table and asked the friend to his left to play his hand. The abscent player was dealt two dueces against a dealers 6. the appointed friend hit the hand without splitting. The hand lost. The abscent player returns and complains about not splitting of the dueces. I make the mistake of agreeing with his strategy, that splitting dueces against the 6 would have been the correct strategy. The appointed player who appears to be under the influence says loudly to his friend, so I could hear, "I have a gun in my truck and I'll shoot that SOB". I don't frequent that casino to much any more because the gun toting loudmouth is a regular there and I don't think he likes me.
Guy dealt 4 to a royal with a king. Quarter single play VP. He holds the kings. I interrupted him and asked why he isn't going for the royal. Response of: "Ah, I never get those" and we know why.

Recently returned from my annual 2 week December trip. While playing a full pay DDB VP machine I noticed the guy beside me being dealt 2 Q's and 2 2's. He held the deuces and tossed the Q's. I thought maybe he had just been in a hurry and made a mistake. I kind of watched him out of the corner of my eye for awhile. Sure enough, anytime he had 2 pair and one of the pair was 2's, 3's or 4's, he tossed the other pair and went for the bonus. He lost his money pretty quick.

Great sentiment, one I wish every gambler in a casino adhered to.

With that in mind, dumbest gamblers I encountered were two who did not follow that simple rule.

At the Sahara, a new $5.00 BJ table opened and three people joined me and one guy who had just sat down. One of the girls reached into her purse and pulled out a Basic Strategy card. When he saw this, the other guy at the table made a huge deal out of it, telling the dealer and anyone else who would listen how he refuses to play at a table with people who need a strategy card. First we're at a $5.00 table in the Sahara, not exactly High Roller Central. Second, if he was indeed the expert he tried to portray, he would know that what the girl played would have no influence over what cards he got, its all random. A truly dumb and rude person.

Second dumb gambler I witnessed was a women playing next to me at the Bellagio last year. Again it was a 5.00 table. She was playing 5.00 a hand, I was playing $35.00 a hand and up and doing OK. I doubled down on 11 against a dealer 6 but lost when the dealer drew to 21. This women then got mad at me for doubling down, explaining that I am supposed to play as part of the group, table versus dealer, not as an individual! Fortunately she left after that hand so I did not even have to respond to this mensa candidate.

Those Sahara type people are everywhere. I played with a whole table full of them at Sahara at the $1 BJ last year. Third base refused to hit 12 or higher.

There is a BJ dealer at the Taj that told me the exact same thing that the players need to play as part of a group: table vs dealer. And that is why we were losing because we weren't playing as a team. I was quick to point out the next time 3rd base hit 15 against a dealer 15 and got a 6. The dealer then told me, "yeah, but you gotta always assume it's a 10 for your next card. I"ve been dealing for 20 years. I know what I'm talking about."

Might have been a Singer devotee. One of the Singer special plays is to break a 2P for 22, 33, or 44 if a Spec 4K will reach the session win goal.

But probably not if the game was exclusively DDB. Singer sessions generally require multi-game, multi-denomination machines.

Watch a woman plow $300 into a penny machine because the minor progressive had less than couple bucks before it had to hit. She finally hit the $50 and let out a whoop and cashed out.

I'll chase progressives like anybody, but if a machine isn't giving some play along the way I'm not getting in that deep.

OK,i'm totallay ignorant on correct play, this past trip was first time ever playing. Why is it better to hold the 2 pair(which only paid 5 same as pair of JOB) and not just the deuces for the 4oak 2's which has a pretty good payout? I hit 4 deuces a few times and 4 4's several times doing this. Ironically i only hit a FH less than a dozen times the entire trip holding other pairs.
Again, was first time and a little buzzed but it sure seemed like the right thing to do to me.
