Observing Dumb Gamblers (add your story here)

OK,i'm totallay ignorant on correct play, this past trip was first time ever playing. Why is it better to hold the 2 pair(which only paid 5 same as pair of JOB) and not just the deuces for the 4oak 2's which has a pretty good payout? I hit 4 deuces a few times and 4 4's several times doing this. Ironically i only hit a FH less than a dozen times the entire trip holding other pairs.
Again, was first time and a little buzzed but it sure seemed like the right thing to do to me.

I thought maybe he had just been in a hurry and made a mistake. I kind of watched him out of the corner of my eye for awhile. Sure enough, anytime he had 2 pair and one of the pair was 2's, 3's or 4's, he tossed the other pair and went for the bonus. He lost his money pretty quick.

Holding the dueces is bad because of the times you'll get nothing on the draw. You end up with a pair of dueces, which is worthless.

The odds of completing 2222A from 22 is something like 6,000:1
On my honeymoon back in 1985 . Playing Black Jack in the Bahamas. 2$ table. I was a real novice sitting in the last spot next to dealer. I "hit" on a 12. Woman at first base lambasted me when I drew the face card. "That should have been the dealers card for a bust. "
She had on a mink stole and gawdy jewelry . I politely told " Ma'am I think the way you dress you should be playing at a $10 table " I got up and left the table. My wife laughed her ass off.

I guess I was the dumb gambler . LOL

There is a difference between novice and dumb.

It is 360:1 to improve a pair to quads. Assuming you didn't discard an Ace, 4 in 45 chance the kicker is an Ace. 360 x 45/4 = 4050 to 1.
ugh

Just saw this one at Craps Table on NYE....

Guy kept putting 5 $100 chips on the PassLine, but never placed Odds behind it. The table was hot, points were being made. I asked him if he ever bet behind the line, maybe put a couple blacks on the Pass and the rest behind it? He just looked at me strange like he didn't understand, said he couldn't risk more money. Dealer and I looked at each other and kept playing.

I normally try not to give gambling advice other than telling people to re-insert their players card or ladies to watch their hand bags better.
From my trip last October ..........

Playing roulette at The Orleans I saw a guy buy $300 in nickels and place them all over the board.
Zero came out and he didn’t have it covered.

Then he bought $700 in quarters and placed them all over the board.
I can’t remember the number that came out, but you guessed it, he didn’t have it covered this time either.

That was $1,000 in two spins !!!!!

Correct. There are 47 "cards" remaining. They can form 47*46*45 /3 /2 threesomes. Four of those threesomes contain 22A, for one in 4,054. I did the math on my fingers the first time.

Three dueces is often a correct hold, as in 222QJ
