This will mostly be a work trip, although I am sticking around after the convention closes for a single day of debauchery. Renting a Thrifty Toyota Corolla for three days at a total of $110.................apparently the hyper-cheap rental rates are a thing of the past. My two business nights will be spent in a NYNY Spa Suite (it's really a large room vs a suite). I would normally have stayed in a standard king, but rates dropped so I changed my reservation and will pay $298 included taxes and fees for the two nights. I currently have customer business meals set up for breakfast (2), lunch (1), and dinner (1), and will fill in the few empty spots with supplier business meals. While this all may sound fun, each of these meals will be spent talking business, which isn't anything like vacation as some might believe. Between the meals, I'll be working the convention floor. Little to no drinking nights 1 and 2.
Come Friday morning, after a customer breakfast, I'm on my own to goof around until my flight the following morning. I move to the Golden Nugget, where I have one free night, excluding the resort fee, in the Rush Tower. This is in lieu of the regular cost of $266, including resort fee and taxes. I'm not not certain what is going on downtown, but $266 seems quite pricy.
This is my first flight to Vegas from Minneapolis, and I appeared to have screwed up. When I first booked, it appeared TO ME that the only early morning flight was on Spirit, so I booked my outbound with them. The return flight is with Delta. I paid some $40 extra for a Spirit carry-on bag. At a later date, when confirming my departure times, I noticed that there is a reasonably priced 7:00am Delta flight. Oh well.
I plan to spend several hours Friday evening wandering the Fremont East Entertainment District. I'll likely split my blackjack playing between El Cortez and The Golden Gate. If there's a good ball game or two on TV, I'll likely spend a few hours at 7-7-7 Brewpub at Main Street Station.
Saturday, I fly non-stop to Minneapolis, landing at 3:30 local time. This gives me just enough time to navigate to the local pub to watch my Purdue Boilermakers clinch the Big 10 basketball regular season championship. We are currently alone in first place with three games to play. Woo woo!
Vegas bound!
