Gotta go with Sting on this one, since the question was "who is the better musician, songwriter". Using stadium sellouts as criteria, Justin Bieber would have to be considered a musical genius!

Sting is a very talented and versatile artist (in The Police and solo)- he writes & performs in a wide variety of genres - Rock, Jazz, Blues and even Classical. He does them all well. That's what I use as my benchmark for a great musician & songwriter.
Bono is a great rocker (in U2) with many solid hits to his credit, but he's not nearly as versatile in his musical abilities in other genres, or as a solo artist.

I wish you lived closer Don Diego. I happen to be going to his concert tonight at the Western Washington State Fair and I have two extra tickets. I sure hope he plays Trapped at the Drive Through.
DonDiego attended his "White and Nerdy" Concert in Prescott Valley shortly before moving back East. He retains the t-shirt.

His concerts are great fun, because everybody just wants to have a good time, . . . lots of folks sing along to every song, but, . . . perhaps not surprisingly, . . . that doesn't spoil the show, it makes it better ! (How could anyone ruin a Weird Al song ?)

DonDiego says: "Enjoy ! ! !"

Wife and I saw Weird Al a few years ago in Philly. Great time!
hmmmm.....while I have HEARD of both Bono and Sting, I can't name a song that either of them does, so I couldn't say. I think I've seen Sting in a TV show at one point? The only Bono (music-wise) I know of is Sonny Bono who is deceased.

Just not a music person I guess...although I LOVE going to musicals, especially anything by Andrew Lloyd Weber.
I know...I'm a nerd. Oh well.

I thought you were a biker chick?
Haven't like anything U2 has done in about 15 years. Haven't liked anything Sting has done in about 20 years.

Gotta go with Weird Al here.

Ditto! Don't forget Sting as the hot pervy guy in Brimstone and Treacle
I cant even believe they are being used in the same sentence, much less trying to figure who is clearly better:
STING!!!!
He sold out MGM when I saw him in 2009...the man ROCKS!
Weird Al and Kid Rock are not foreigners - I will go with them.

snidely333---

yes, I used to own a motorcycle and used to ride it...but does that mean I have to dress only in leather and like a certain kind of music?
I also have owned 2 VW bugs over the years....does that mean I have to hug trees, eat granola bars and listen to Yanni?
I also owned a pickup truck at one point in my varied life...does that mean I have to like country-western music and tote a gun?

Oh, wait! I DO like country-western music, have several Yanni CDs and often tote a gun....so never mind!

***as to the original question, as coincidence would have it, I was just looking at a magazine about the movie "Dune" and DonDiego pointed to a person on the cover and said that was Sting! So I have seen Sting in TV & movies so my vote would be to him.
