Question for locals my wife and I are considering moving to Vegas when we retire in a couple of years we have heard that they have big problems with scorpions and black widow spiders there is this really a bid problem I have dogs that are very curious and would not want then being bitten or us either for that matter. We have been looking at properties on line in Henderson, Summerlin, and Cenntenial Hills. Which of these areas would you guys recommend. We are still very active and would not be looking at retirement communities. Thanks for your time.

You should always get an inspection on a home prior to purchase. Scorpions often show up in homes surrounded by new construction as their habitats are being destroyed. Black widows are a problem if you don't spray and maintain your property, otherwise you may see one here and there but it is not a "big" problem.

Whew thank goodness we have Orkin. That was a concern of mine since I am not a fan of any spiders.

I've lived here 6 years and have never seen a scorpion, black widow spider, or snake. There are bugs, but I have a bug man once a month and haven't had any problems. He charges $20 each time, and sprays inside and out.

I agree with Sue (Hi Sue). I've lived here for 3 years and I have had a dog the whole time. Nothing has ever bitten him...nothing of the insect variety, lol. don't worry about that stuff. However, if you really want to scare yourselves to death, TIVO the Animlal PLanet Infested series. You'll never want to even live in your own house, anywhere. Those vignettes are horrifying and I can't stop watching them

Kinda funny that a thread titled "off-topic" is actually about Vegas.
