Ohio Man Wins Almost 500,000 At Vegas Airport

This was a silver buckle like you see when the rodeo is in town.
A year or two before, I'd lent my clubs parking lot to a small Mexican rodeo group at the last minute when their original venue fell through. They gave me one of the buckles they award the winners with. It was about 80% silver and huge. I sold it on eBay for $170 a few years later.

Same thing. I had no idea you could not wear a trophy buckle on commercial airlines.

$170 on e-bay......Hmmmmm. I still have several from the '70s, they just might be for sale soon.

If he was on his way to Cincinnati on Allegiant, nope. We had an extra day as they couldn't fix the damn plane.

I thought airport slots were supposed to be set extra tight.

The VP schedules definitely are. That's usually how I measure slots in the same room - but its not exactly scientific.

probably not much tighter than strip or downtown. (slots that is, not VP) the bigger issue is no players club for rewards / comps. I have always had better luck at slots in my home state than I ever have had in Vegas. I have been going to Vegas for 20 years, 50+ trips, I play very little slots anymore. when in Vegas, I will play pai-gow, craps, BJ, and a little time on the slot machines. when I go to the casinos at home, I play lots of slots, and have had many good hits.

In the week or so after 9-11, all flights in or out of McCarren were canceled, but there was a substantial amount of slot play going on. Turned out that the slots were owned by Jackie G. and were known to the locals to be pretty loose.
I'm not sure who owns them today or if it is still the case.

Actually the airport contract has been held by Michael Gaughan (Jackie's son) for the past 23 years. It is not the money making deal most would think. He was paying $25.7 million to the airport for their share in 2007, the largest ever paid. They have actually re-negotiated the deal in 2011 and reduced the airport revenue by 1.5% percent and have it on a declining scale. When the current contract was open for bids, 23 representives from various casinos came to the informational meeting. Michael was the only one who submitted an actual proposal.
He claims he was making very little money before it was re-negotiated which the airport commissioners did not argue his numbers.
I have actually one a bit of money waiting to board. Hit 1000 coins on the WOF a few years back $250. it was a quarter machine. I have not had much luck since, probably lost a bit more than I have made.

I used to like to play slots in Vegas, a twenty would usually last a little while, it was fun. Sit and drink beers winning a little here and there. Now when I put in the occasional twenty, sucks it down in about two minutes, where's the fun in that? I'm not sure if I even tried a twebty last trip.
