I thought it was lunacy when Penn State joined the Big 10 and they kept it the Big 10. Now there are a total of 12 teams. I realize there is a Big 12 (that has only 10 teams). I don't think there would be a problem in changing names.

And the Big-12 is on the way to nine. But that's not as absurd as the new division names of the Big-10(12). Christ. It's like THE Ohio State University made those selections.

We say it every year, but what a season we have ahead of us! Bama and OU get most of the love and perhaps deservedly so, but Nick lost two studs and what will be the fallout from the tornado? And will the Sooners again swoon--just enough--as they've proven to do of late? Miami again proves why the death penalty needs to be reintroduced. THE Buckeyes are a mess. How will we respond to unprecedented-in-our history media and NCAA scrutiny, and being so close last year. (I'm more worried about sustaining the offensive timing, btw, and not at all worried about what some are saying is a questionable D. We played D by committee all last year and when our seniors left they didn't exactly take over the NFL.) Is Texas too busy dreaming of Channel Texas? Are the mid-tier powerhouses now a guy or two short of the success they've had the past several years? Will the Miles Miracles continue? Will Spurrier's QB show up with a brain this year? Florida, FSU, OSU, hello, Big-10, may I introduce you to the Huskers?! Wowza.

Now all we need is for ND to finish somewhere around .500 and all will be good. lol

If the Huskers can repeat their traditional ways of not making the spread every week, there is some hope. However, they should make the spread in at least half of their conference games.

Spreads don't win conference or national championships. Hell, a "good" team can cover the spread in each game and still go 0-12!

To some of us degenerates that would be an incredible team.

This may be one of the first years that they didn't put Notre Dame in the preseason top 25.

In regards to Oregon's defense, you have Nick Aliotti as your coordinator. I have direct experience with Aliotti in the Rose Bowl when he was with UCLA. As part of the many Rose Bowl events we have an assistant coach's dinner in the press box at the Rose Bowl. Two of the gifts that are given to each coach are a watch (valued at $225) and a nice satchel bag with their initials stitched in. The person who was giving out the watches all of a sudden found out he was one short and was in a state of panic. Nick held up a watch box and joked, "are you looking for this?". The satchel bags were not filled with anything. As Nick was leaving we noticed that his satchel bag was completely full. He then makes a comment "I had a very good night". We don't know what he had in the satchel and if it had any value? We could not ask him. The head UCLA coach at the time, Bob Toledo, was informed the next day and shook his head.

I had Bob Toledo as a speaker next football season and Nick Aliotti had left UCLA to go back to Oregon. Oregon lost on Thursday night, the night before Bob Toledo spoke. He joked about how he wasn't surprised that Oregon lost, he then said "look at who they have as their defensive coordinator". Bob Toledo couldn't stand Nick Aliotti.

Good bit on Barkley in the Times today. Still think Pretty Pete lost sight of what was up when he pushed the kid early on, but he's certainly grown into it and showed himself to be a true student-human-athlete.
