Thanks man, I really don't mind your apparent assumptions that I'm a cheapskate. I've spent my last 15 trips down there staying cheap so I can spend my money on other things like shows and good food. I also haven't stay on or anywhere near the strip in probably 12 years. So I'm pretty out of touch with what's cool and what's been updated and what's run down. New stuff has gone up, for sure. Hence this topic. I'm out of touch with the strip.
I think I have a good handle on the MyVegas thing, but your explanation was good and concise. Thanks
I think maybe I'll take my wife up on her offer to go down to Vegas for a couple of days and do some "research". Cosmopolitan sounds like it might be a good options. As long we are somewhere on the good part of the strip, I think she'll be happy. Once I get the hotel figured out I'll come up with ways to add some cool stuff around it. Spa, limo, whatever

MyVegas is the Facebook game of the MGM company. Your play on the games earns POINTS. "Rewards" come up from time to time to be claimed, if you have earned the points for the Reward. The Rewards are specific, such as "one buffet at Bellagio", or "free night(s) at Aria", "free cocktail at xxx bar", etc. You select the reward you want, print it out, take to the MLife desk to be activated when you get there. Once activated, you have to use it in 24 hours.
MGM Express Comps are actual money/dollars that you earn by playing in their casinos. Once you have so many dollars in your Express Comp account, you may use those to pay for rooms, dining, etc. at any MGM property. They are available to you to use any time, rather than waiting for, say, a comped room at Aria or buffet at Bellagio to come up on MyVegas (and whether or not you have earned enough POINTS).
NOTE: They expire if you don't play in an MGM casino within 12 months (used to be 18 months).
And, NOTE: Express Comps are earned on slot play ONLY, not earned on table play in Las Vegas (as of December 2015). Express Comps continue to be earned on table play in Mississippi casinos and other states.
Both are different from Point Play, which is earned as you play. You use Point Play, similar to Free Play, on machines (not sure how it works for table play).
Then there are the Tier Points, which place you in one of their five tiers: Sapphire, Gold, Pearl, Platinum, and NOIR. The higher your tier, the better the offers you get, though I think all tiers get some pretty good comp offers.
MGM is not much different from the CET (Harrah's/Caesars/Paris/Flamingo/etc, they just call them different things. CET has Reward Credits which you can use anywhere any time (but expire if you don't play in 6 months). CET also has a Facebook game with which you earn points.
Now, I'll say this once more and I won't nag you again: This is a special occasion, for your daughter, not for you. If you truly want to give your daughter a special experience, pick something mid-Strip and don't look for the cheapest place. Mid-Strip MGM would be Aria and Bellagio. Both have some deals...look at the deals on this LVA main page. For CET I recommend Paris or Caesars, Strip view. She'll talk about it forever.
Or, even Cosmopolitan, which doesn't belong to either company. You could probably pull off an offer of room comp at COSMO with the first sign up and some decent hours of slot play (with your card in, of course) while you stay at SP for free. Best Strip views available, big rooms with balcony. They seem to send comp offers after first sign up and casino play. A month or so after you play at Cosmo, call and speak to a host, tell them about your daughter's 21st, etc.
Now, go and give your daughter a birthday vacation to brag about!
