One Should Not Count on The Olympics This Summer

The 2016 Olympic Games are scheduled to begin on 5 August.

[What the, . . . . ? Is that an athletic supporter in the logo?]

For months there has been concern that some of the venues for water sports are unsafe; floating sewage was one clue. Another was last year when a potential contestant, while familiarizing himself with the kayaking stream, contracted MRSA.

But now, . . .
__Only half the tickets have been sold.
__Ricardo Leyser was tapped to replace Brazil's former sports minister, who resigned just days ago.
__It's . . . also unclear whether construction of the Olympic facilities will be finished as organizers have faced steep funding constraints -- the budget was slashed by $500 million in January.
__. . . there's concern that Brazil won't be able to attract tourists to the games over fears about high crime rates and terrorism.
__Athletes and health experts have raised concerns about the mosquito-borne Zika virus and have lobbied for the games to be postponed.

__The country is in the midst of a political upheaval and massive protests, and lawmakers are currently considering a request to impeach President Dilma Rousseff.
__The country's economy is also collapsing, suffering the worst recession in 25 years.

So to anyone planning on attending DonDiego says : "Boa sorte !"

And, . . . "let the Games begin."
Raw sewage? I cant think of a better medium for Michael Phelps.
Doomsayers are always vocal this time of year. Not surprising our resident purveyor of doom and gloom is at the forefront of this thread.

On the other hand, I did read that very few cities are nominating themselves to host the Olympics as it is a money-loser. Perhaps a permanent venue in Greece will both solve the issue of venue and help to revitalize the Greek economy.

Perhaps the City of Detroit can make a bid to be the permanent venue too.
"In 1950, Detroit was the wealthiest city in America on a per capita income basis. Today, the Census Bureau reports that it is the nation's 2nd poorest major city, just 'edging out' Cleveland."

Where's Mitt when you really need him?
No worries, the bribes are done and paid for.

Oh no, it's not just DD, I've been reading about the deplorable water conditions for a while. They barely got there shit together for the world cup. I heard the Olympic venues are further behind than that. This was a while back I saw this but at that time they said it'd be a miracle to be ready in time.
They should just change the format a little, re-name it "The Hunger Games", and all will be fine.
