Then he'll go directly to the airline website, and pretty much always finds the same flight at the same price, . . . so he buys the tickets directly eliminating the middle-man.

There is another good reason to book directly with the airline. I read an article a while back about bumping and the lower you are on the totem pole the more likely you are to get bumped. Airlines don't want to piss off their regular customers, so the first to go will be the 3rd party purchasers. Next will be people that booked directly but are not members of the FF program with FF last, ranked based on how much they fly.
I have never found a flight that didn't involve changing planes when looking on a site to get the hotel/flight deal. I can't remember the last time I didn't have a direct flight.
Another reason I would not use a TS is you can not get anything taken off your bill for your play.
I am also pretty sure you would have to go through the TS if anything went wrong with your flight.
I do however think they are good deals for those that do not mind the reasons I do mind.

I say if you are going to Vegas and have a resort fee, take that same amount every morning and throw it in the field at a craps table.

Since when is getting "bumped" a bad thing??? True, you get to Vegas a little bit later but you get paid by the airline. Over the years, I would say we've received close to $5,000 in free travel from the program. We even get to the airport about three hours before our flight and ask if we can get on the list to get bumped if the flight is oversold. Three trips in a row we used our vouchers to pay for our flight then got bumped off them and used the vouchers from that flight to pay for our next one. That little run of luck was sweet.

I wasn't planning on suggesting anything to anyone. I was just asking for other people's insight and experiences, because I find this interesting and often educational. Since I personally see online travel sites as unnecessary, I wanted to hear from people who feel differently. I appreciate your input.

My assumption has always been that anyone on these boards who was a regular Vegas visitor was wagering at least the minimum amount required to get room offers -- which I would categorize as minuscule (and I'm a guy who has never had money to burn). I suppose I could be wrong. I've been wrong before... I thought Cowboys and Aliens wasn't going to suck.

not a problem, I was just responding to your post about third party sites. some people always use them, others never use them and book directly with the hotel/airlines, etc.

as for getting room offers, I would love to get room offers but since I play the tables mostly and play the minimums I never get room offers. I did get offers before but once they determined my (low) play I never saw the offers again, not even at the EC, lol.
