Only Serious Football Fans Need To Show Up

John Madden knows how to watch football on TV

"Let me show you my deal back here," he said as he moves from his office to a 7,000-square-foot studio. On the wall are nine 63-inch television screens, surrounding one massive movie theater screen. Each screen is numbered. On Sundays during the football season, he has a different game playing on every screen, and if something interesting happens in one of them, he calls out for an assistant to switch that game to the big screen.

On NFL Sundays, Madden will invite around 100 people to watch the slate of games in his 7,000 square-foot studio. (Getty Images)Up to 100 people will join him -- family members, friends, hangers on. Madden sits in a big chair in the front of the room. Only the serious football fans can sit in the front row. Farther back is a second row of chairs. In this area, people talk a little and watch a little. Way in the back, there is a third row with tables filled with food and drink, where people can socialize and kids can run around.

Throw in some good looking ladies serving cocktails, and I could be talked into going. Okay, they had me at the free food.
Does Madden give some color commentary during the games, too? That sounds like a sweet set up. Good for him.
Does he serve good food?

I just watched a special about Ray Guy, the Raider punter, who is the first punter to ever make the Hall of Fame. Madden is all over it. I miss his commentary.

Brett Favre! Brett Favre! Nevermind the game, I'm talking about Brett Favre!

John should just tear down the TV and put up a giant poster of Brett Favre.
I could never stand Madden as a broadcaster, that is one cool room tho.
Guess you call that a Madden Cave
I dunno...something a little creepy about all that.

But, good on 'im.

I read that he is filthy rich. The Madden Football Game has sold over 100 million copies. He has made more money off of that than all of his other endeavors put together. Even if his royalty is only a dollar a copy that is a lot of money.

I served Madden regularly when I worked my way through college at a restaurant in the Bay Area. I like the guy.
