Orlando Nightclub Shooting Worst Mass Shooting In US History

My first thoughts are for all the souls that lost their lives in that nightclub. Religious fundamentalism is a horrible disease.

Yep, killing unbelivers doesn't make for an orderly society.

President Barack Hussein Obama, 12 June 2016:
"We are still learning all the facts. This is an open investigation. We’ve reached no definitive judgment on the precise motivations of the killer. The FBI is appropriately investigating this as an act of terrorism. And I’ve directed that we must spare no effort to determine what—if any—inspiration or association this killer may have had with terrorist groups. What is clear is that he was a person filled with hatred. Over the coming days, we’ll uncover why and how this happened, and we will go wherever the facts lead us."

It would seem that malibber2 and chefantwon have jumped the gun on this matter.

DonDiego counsels all to remain calm and wait for the facts to be uncovered. Maybe it'll turn out the shooter was an Amishman gone bad.

From urbandictionary.com:
jump the gun
to do something too soon, especially without thinking carefully about it (Originally used in sports contests that are started by firing a gun. If someone running in a race jumps the gun, they start running before the gun has been fired to start the race.)
He shouted at me before I had time to explain, but later he apologised for jumping the gun (jump the gun).

And there's absolutely no way to prevent these things, is there?

1. The San Bernardino Terrorists were not on the Terror Watch List.
2. The Orlando Shooter was on a Terror Watch List but removed from it after the FBI interviewed him in 2013/14.
3. The Boston Marathon Terrorists Used Pressure Cookers. Does the proposed law ban Pressure Cookers?
4. Timothy McVey used a truck full of fertilizer and Diesel fuel. Does the proposed law ban nitrogen or diesel?

Suspending the gun rights of those on the Terror Watch list will not have much of an impact on Terrorist Killings. If they can't get a legal gun, they'll get an illegal one. If they can't get an illegal gun, they'll build a bomb or use poison or fire. The root cause of terrorism is not easy access to legal guns.

That being said, if someone is on a Government List that prevents them from boarding commercial airlines because of suspected ties to terrorism, they shouldn't be allowed to possess firearms either....Like Ted Kennedy for example. The problem comes with how people get on the list and how they get off the list. Seems like there should be some legal proceeding to charge the accused with something besides 'suspicion' and to give the accused an opportunity to defend themselves. It's the American Way to have your day in court.

The shooter has gained the support of the Texas Lieutenant governor. "You reap what you sew" was his tweet in the aftermath.

He's a class act

So your witless argument could be used to argue for legalizing bombs, couldn't it?

So you're arguing to make diesel and fertilizer illegal....and pressure cookers...Talk about witless...bomb ingredients are legal and everywhere...so is poison.

Terrorists will find a way to kill...because Terrorists. Thinking a bill to prevent those on the terror watch list to buy guns is an answer to prevent terrorism is delusional. Which US Terror acts would it have prevented? Name one. I dare you.

If you actually read my whole post I agreed that those on the No Fly list should not be allowed to possess guns...Not because I think that it's going to make any difference, but because it's common sense. If we're going to suspend someone's rights, then getting on that no-fly list should involve a judicial procedure...not a computer algorithm.

The shooter had passed a background check to get his security license, so forky's list would not have worked. In NYC stabbings are up 20% the year to almost 10 per day. Should sharp objects be banned?
