Our President's Breakthrough With Iran

Apparently, the United States, along with five other leading world powers, have achieved a momentous deal to curb Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for limited sanctions relief, in what could be the first sign of an emerging rapprochement between the Islamic state and the West.

I know that this won't stop his detractors from using the word "golf", "teleprompter", "Kenya", and "Obamaphone" in an attempt to belittle him. But for those that care about serious matters, this could be the first step in a momentous change. Let's hope these seeds takes root, and that we can bring this rogue state into the modern world.

Oh I hope this goes as well as his "cross the line" statement to Syria! Like we have "any" money to give to any one else!

and the beat goes on with this guy!
The beat definitely does go on.

Building on his big multi-national win with Syria, we've now got a strong, verifiable chance to reverse Iran's march toward nuclear weapons by halting new centrifuges, capping the amount and types of uranium Iran can produce, blocking heavy-water reactors, all accompanied by dramatic increase in international oversight and inspections.

Oh, and we're not paying Iran anything, all we're giving them is light relief of some trade sanctions and access to some of its frozen currency accounts overseas, concessions said to be valued at less than $7 billion. More than that, though, Iran gets a peek inside what it could be like for it to rejoin the modern world.

Oh, and we greatly reduce the chance that we'll have to grind up another generation of underprivileged young men and women in another Vietnam/Afghanistan/Iraq war. That should be worth something, no?
Only in chilly's alternate universe is Syria considered a win. obama said if Syria crossed the line he would act. While he was hemming on that line, Russia stepped in with a deal that Syria would destroy their chemical weapons.

Looks like a Russian win to me.

Iran has not said they would stop anything; they said they would suspend construction and production for 6 months at which time they would revisit the deal. During these 6 months they could break their promise with no repercussions, but keep all the money they received.

The UN has said in order for sanctions to be removed they had to take down their nuclear program
One of the many ways that strong world leaders act is in cooperation with other nations, as President Obama is now doing with Russia and others to destroy Syria's chemical weapons capability. By the way, with the Cold War long over (I know, that's news in hoops2ville), it is possible for the US and Russia to win at the same time.

As for Iran, the deal caps centrifuges and 3.5-5% uranium, requires all 20% uranium to be diluted or converted, and bans all 90% weapons uranium. And please realize that $6-$7 billion in sanctions relief is pretty meaningless to an oil-rich nation like Iran that yearns to freely sell its crude on international markets again. Win win win.

I know, hoops2, you're bummed that we're not in another war you'd enjoy watching from the comfort of your TV . . . .

It's fine if people want to argue politics online, but the LVA site isn't The Huffington Post. I look to this site for useful and interesting Vegas information, something I find increasingly scarce here, especially when compared to sites like "Vegas Message Board" and "Vegas Chatter." Are there other online message boards that do a good job of concentrating on Vegas info?

Ain't it the truth?

The endless political posts suck all the energy out of the place.

I used to check in on the board several times a day. Now maybe a couple of times a week. I only clicked on this thread because I noticed the last contribution was made by someone I didn't affiliate as a political poster.
There are 28 forums on this website. You two might enjoy the many forums on the paid side. We discuss lots of Vegas stuff there and rarely veer into politics.

We've pretty much confined politics to this one, free forum. If you don't care for the FAA forum, perhaps the other 27 will be more to your taste.
People should be able to figure out within about 2 days that if what they are looking for is Vegas discussion, the free side of the LVA ain't it. There's nothing I need to know about Vegas at this point....I come here once a day and read the discussion which, frankly, is entertaining and at times enlightening. There are some pretty smart people on here.

FWIW, anything that saves lives and keeps peace is a good thing. I could give a crap less who gets the credit for it.
Exactly what I thought of first, Neville Chamberlin stating "Peace in our time" If the neighbors AND the Israelites aren't happy with this agreement, why should we be?
In chilly's alternate universe putin is a great humanitarian. If Russia & China support it there may be something wrong with the deal
