Patriot act coming to an end?

https://news.yahoo.com/senate-tries-bridge-gaps-domestic-surveillance-004154684.html

Can't say I'm disappointed. Since Snowden spilled the beans and revealed just how much(I wonder if he really disclosedall of the reach of the NSA) the NSA was gathering on the entire country, it certainly seems they may have overstepped their boundary's. Or not? I'm not sure about the USA freedom act, I don't know how much different it is than the patriot act, but it's supposed to limit NSA's scope?, looks to me it just stops the bulk collection, no limits on listening to anyone.
I'll be really un-PC here(don't care), shouldn't they really be focusing on ethnic/religious(IE:Muslims) instead of having a green light for the entire US? I haven't heard many Baptists, Catholics or Methodists declaring a worldwide call to arms lately.

That's because jatki99 is stone deaf.

The man in this mug shot is Robert Doggart.

He is 63.

He lives in Tennessee.

He ran for Congress last year on a far-right, anti-immigrant platform.

He is an ordained minister in something called the Christian National Church.

And this week he pled guilty to to plotting an attack on a small Muslim enclave in New York.

His plan was to travel along with members of a private militia to an area near Hancock, New York, known as Islamberg, to burn down a mosque, school and cafeteria, while gunning down anyone from the community who tried to stop them.

“Our small group will soon be faced with the fight of our lives. We will offer those lives as collateral to prove our commitment to our God,” Doggart said in a Facebook post, according to court documents. “We shall be Warriors who will inflict horrible numbers of casualties upon the enemies of our Nation and World Peace.”

So if jatki99 hasn't heard of Doggart, or his sort of white male American Christian suicide terrorists, it's because jatki99 is kind of an ignoramus.
Coot thinks one guy is "many". Coot thinks a non-denominational group is "Baptists, Catholics or Methodists". Coot could be ordained by the same group without too much hassle - it can be done online. That wouldn't make Coot a Baptist, Catholic or Methodist. Coot thinks that someone running for Congress in Tennessee as an independent must be far right and anti-immigrant, garnering a whopping 6% of the vote. Coot thinks pleading guilty to interstate communication of threats, threats that don't show anyone other than Doggart making the threats, to be many people declaring a worldwide call to arms.

It is a good thing that this nut job has been convicted of making interstate communications of threats. For some reason, I don't think Coot thinks that ISIS or the New Black Panthers or any other groups that call for and promote the death of pretty much anyone via the internet should face the same charges.

Online Ordination Reviews does not think much of the Christian National Church ordination.

They grade the organization, apparently comprising a website which will provide one an Ordination Certificate and a Wallet Card for $165, and little else. They conclude: ". . . that Christian National Church is an Unregistered Organization and Not Legally able to issue ordinations under the law."

It appears to be a scam.

It is nice to see that chilly has the time on a holiday to write such pleasant posts.
There's lots of home-grown terror groups right here in the USA...and the biggest common denominator is anti-government, right wing nuts - like the ones who showed up with sniper rifles at the Bundy Ranch.

Southern Poverty Law Center - right wing extremist terror groups

Here's an interactive guide to find a friendly, neighborhood hate group near you.

PS - I'm also glad to see the Patriot act weakened. I was never much of a fan. I was pretty vocal about when the law was passed and ever since....and some people on this forum questioned my patriotism (because patriots support the Patriot Act). The people who named this law took a page right out of Don Diego's favorite book - 1984.

Yea, it doesn't surprise me he would post something so misleading.

The SPLC has Ben Carson it's list. Interestingly it does does not list any arab/islamic organizations.

It most certainly does list Islamic extremist groups. Lots of them. But there are even more right wing mental patient groups.

If you believe racial profiling is an acceptable means to catch domestic terrorists then profiling white, male Christians will yield more results than Going after people with towels wrapped around their head.

Don't see any anit-American/pro islamic groups here

The SPLC reported that 784 hate groups were active in the United States in 2014, down from 939 in 201 and 1,007 in 2012. These included:

186 separate Ku Klux Klan (KKK) groups with 52 websites
196 neo-Nazi groups with 89 websites
111 White nationalist groups with 190 websites
98 White power skinhead groups with 25 websites
39 Christian Identity groups with 37 websites
93 neo-Confederate groups with 25 websites
113 black separatist groups with 40 websites
90 additional groups divided by the SPLC into categories such as anti-gay, Holocaust denial, white power music, radical traditionalist Catholic, among other categories for designated hate groups,[97][98] which maintained another 172 websites.[99] Only organizations active in 2013 were counted, excluding those that appear to exist only on the Internet.[5]
