Pawn Shop

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that the Pawn Shop was going to start charging to enter their building has this started. WE have stopped into the Pawn Shop quite a few times early in the morning when there were no lines. This trip we passed several times returning to the Golden Nugget and not one time was there anyone waiting in line to enter. Have they started charging. Seems like they are taking a long time in getting the little cubes stacked and hooked up as well. The place in the past anytime after 1:00pm there was a long line of people waiting to get in and weather was sometimes pretty hot and other times cool just to stand and wait.
The Pawn Stars pawnshop? I wouldn't pay to get in. Its really not that exciting
Those guys don't make enough money hawking there bobbleheads and other crap? I've never been, never tried to, not much interest to. Maybe if I hit the lottery I might 'cause there is a lot of really cool stuff that comes in on the TV show(the absolute only reason I still watch on occasion).

Then again, they might be trying to cut down on the looky-loo factor.
We are in Las Vegas 6 times a year and for quite a few years the lines were always long it could be 105* and people would be wrapped around the building. We have been there twice a few years ago and could not believe the place small and the lines were like moving slowly. The second time we went was to see if the first time was a waste and it was a total waste. No big deal. The reason I posed the question if they were charging was no lines and we were just pass there in Jan and Mar and the lines still long. Last week we made several trips past returning to the Golden Nugget and nobody was waiting to get in. The cubes they are stacking one on top of the other is a slow project that really looks stupid and maybe a huge mistake. But who knows. I had to go see the Pawn Shop it was just like Rick's Restoration had to see once and a much better tour of the place given by Rick himself.

What cubes?
How do people who have real things they want to pawn, get around the line and crowds?
I used to be a regular at a lot of Vegas pawn shops. It was always my belief that I could find good merchandise at cheap prices due to it being Vegas and all that it implies. I have found a few good deals mostly on jewelry but overall, not so much.
I do peruse the shops on occasion including Gold and Silver Pawn. There are several around that are open 24 hours and these I usually visit early in the morning. I went to Gold and Silver a couple of trips ago. I believe it was around 8 in the morning on a weekday. There was no line and no entry fee. I even had to be "buzzed" in the door.
I found a watch I was interested in but the clerk said he did not have the authority to bargain and that the price was the price, no one was there that could lower the price. I left without the watch.
I went early, had to wait outside because they were filming. Finally the film crew left, and a guy with an old retro-looking scale left with them. We asked him if he would actually be on the show. He said he didn't know but hoped so. I never saw this item featured.

Then they let the shoppers in. I saw one of the "Stars" disappearing to the back. None appeared while we were inside browsing. Did see Antoine who stood (sat) guard at the door. Saw nothing of interest, everything had high price. I thought I would buy a key chain or tee shirt or some other souvenir, but they were so cheesy I would have been embarrassed to show them to anybody.

I don't know how they identify things to film, since they don't hang around all the time, I'm told.

My guess is they have people who screen items that come in, then schedule filming when something looks of interest. I've wondered how they 'select' the other people you see milling around the place during an episode, because the shop isn't open to the public during those times.

I suspect the filming (like most "reality shows") is completely staged. Those people who bring items into the store are sent by the producers and given items to pawn.

One of the stars on "Storage Wars" came clean and told the press that show was a bunch of BS. The producers break into the lockers ahead of time and plant goodies in them to make the show more interesting. And the bidders are given 20k per episode - so its not like they are bidding with their own money.

AWWW MAN.... I like storage wars, well I did!, thanks PJ. Actually I know there's some staging it's a reality show after all. It's the characters that make it interesting anyway, unlike pawn stars now. Only reason I like it is for the stuff that comes in. Corey, Chum and the old man quit trying a long time ago.

The only reality show that can't be staged and is one of my favorite shows is deadliest catch. No faking that crap out there. I've been in stormy 10' swells in a skipjack, little hairy. Can't imagine what some of the crap those guys go through as well as the cameramen to get some insane shots.
