Petition against opening The District at Green Valley Ranch to car traffic

Hi folks:

I know that it's been quite a long time since I've posted at the LVA and I'm sure that a lot of you don't know me or have long since forgotten me. However my visit today is to bring to the LVA community's attention what I consider to be one of the worst decisions that I've read about in a long time.

Apparently there is a new owner of The District at GVR and their plan is to now open the pedestrian walkway there to car traffic which will include parking spaces not to mention a two-lane roadway. My wife and I have been visiting The District for at least 7 years and it has ALWAYS been a must-stop destination for us. Lucille's has always been a part of that tradition followed by a stroll along the pedestrian walkway and finally a visit to the GVR casino.

It sickens me to think that these developers are going to totally ruin the beauty that The District has by opening it up to auto traffic. My hope is that those of you that are familiar with this beautiful place will take even just a minute to sign the petition that one concerned local has posted. Here is the link so that you can go there and hopefully sign on and express your opinion on what this poor, business related decision means to you:

I no longer have an active account on the paid side of LVA, so maybe someone with an active account can re-post this so the paid members can see it too.

I hope that some of you will consider taking a minute to sign this important petition as I truly believe that it is a travesty for them to open The District up to auto traffic. This was truly a gem in the LV area. One that I personally will be sad to see permanently and grossly altered. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your consideration and participation.

Brian

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Kierland near us in north Scottsdale and SanTan Villages in Gilbert, Arizona are both near us and have similar layout to The District at Green Valley. Both Kierland and Santan have traffic flow (15 mph) and parking within and there are a lot of advantages with this concept.
Even with automobile traffic, Kierland has a pedestrian area. Will the District have a pedestrian area if they allow for automobile traffic?

I understand how one may be against automobile traffic. However, the outdoor shopping areas in my area similar to The District allow for auto traffic & parking in front of stores. It makes it easier for one who is going to s specific destination or one with mobility issues. Park West Mall, Peoria, AZ, similar to Kierland and similar concept to The District closes areas to auto traffic when they have special events such as the farmer's market.
No disrespect to the OP on this thread but I don't think it is such a bad idea. The amount of customers to the retail shops in the district would benefit greatly from this new traffic. They have also proposed closing down the new traffic areas for special events etc. I think it is good for business. that is important because if the businesses don't do well there won't be a district at all.
To those that replied, in particular Blade, thank you for responding. I guess that's what makes having a bulletin board and free speech a good thing. I don't take anyone's response to heart or take offense at any of your opinions. So I'll certainly understand that you won't be signing the petition. My intention was not to turn this post in to a debate. You can sign, you can not sign. I just saw this site as an opportunity to bring this to everyone's attention. Thanks again for your response.
