The Plaza

I had stayed before at The Plaza 5 or 6 years ago when it was a little worn. Was just wondering has anyone stayed there lately and what the take on the place would be now. I like the El Cortez and moved there years ago from the Plaza when my Host moved there.
Hi we stayed there last year, I did like it. I had never stayed at the old PLAZA. There is a fruity smell when you walk in. Also there is a guard to the towers, if you do not have a room key you do not go up. Pretty nice. We had a nice room it had a wet bar and so on, safe in the closet wall kind of small. The bathroom was remodeled with furnishing, but from what I have told stayed the same pretty much. Quiet on the floor we were on.
All in a a nice place to me.
They've refereshed it with 30 million dollars since your last visit. Its still only a 2 star hotel but its a much cleaner and nicer one. For $45/night (typically) its a good value.

the rooms at the plaza have been completely renovated so you should like the rooms a lot better than before. They put in new carpets and wallpaper also, they have new safes in the rooms also. not sure but there are a number of newer restaurants at the plaza now. I don't think HHAGG was there when you last stayed and there is a hawaiian style sushi restaurant also. I stayed at the plaza years ago and it was totally worn at that time so the renovations should be a welcome change than it was years ago.

btw, while there is a guard to the towers, there are ways to get around the guards. one way is to just go up the parking lot elevator to a higher floor (like the third floor), then go out and take the regular elevators up the towers. another would be to take the escalators to the 2nd and third floors and then take the regular elevators. IMHO, the guards are just a casual deterrent to non guests but provide little protection.

The larger style of room safe has enough room for a laptop computer, tablet, cameras, several kilos of cocaine, etc. Many others are so small, it's tough to fit more than $100,000 plus a Glock and hand grenade.
