yeah, people took out HELOCs and bought stuff, and that has worked out great for the economy. Especially Vegas, where over leveraged homes and businesses are totally unheard of.

“Riviera Las Vegas… wrote in court documents... ‘Only a few years ago, Riviera Las Vegas was immediately surrounded by established and legendary casino properties such as the Stardust, the New Frontier and Westward Ho.’"

They were closed in 2006, 2007, and 2005, respectively. I guess 6 years counts as "a few." Those three hotels included 3,300 rooms. Fountainbleau alone has 3,800 and Echelon 5,000. It's the same speculation that drove the housing bubble, but condensed into a small area. A burst bubble.

Can you imagine what the city would look like if they had pulled the plug on City Center?
The north side of the strip is really ghetto these days. Last time I was out there the Sahara was still open(April 11'). But even then, it looked like a ghost town out there. With the undesireables hanging out by all the fence that surrounds all the abandoned projects. These rich companies/people buy all this land to build nice stuff and then abandon everything. If they know how to manage thier money by being so rich, how is it that they default on thier projects.?

I really do hope that one day all those projects will continue and even be finished. It would bring the north strip up, which would be nice for a change.

I doubt Carl will do anything with Fountainebleau except flip it.

Does anyone know how the towers at Planet Ho are doing?

I still think it would make sense to put up up a not-to-frilly, mid-scale smallish hotel with a decent casino where the echelon prop is. One that was small enough where they actually would remember you and gave you a good gamble,a little "ol' school" vegas (although i'm nowhere near old enough nor do i personally have intimate knowledge of exactly how things were back then),actually you could even market the casino that way " THE NEW OLD BEST CASINO AND GAMBLE ON THE STRIP,WE'LL REMEMBER YOU AND TREAT YOU HOW IT SHOULD BE",or something like that.
I'm certain i'd be hitting it up.

I'm not an architect or engineer, but i would venture to guess, 50-75 mill could build you a pretty decent place and i bet people would flock there.

Or not.

Do you frequent the unpronounceable Westin Casuarina?

Sorry to tell you this, but this downslide started way before Obama, where have you been?

Yea, but Nobama could have at least said for folks to go to Vegas, have a good time and lets get to work.

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and to promote Las Vegas tourism."

Obama never should have torn down the Stardust.

Fucking Liberals.

I heart you so much right now....lmao
