Poker odds question

How often does a royal flush occur in a 5-card STUD game, like Let-It-Ride. I know it's roughly every 40k hands for 5-card draw?
The probability is 0.00000154 or it would happen once in 649,351 hands.

Excellent, thanks so much. I like playing LIR for a break from VP once in a while, but I always end up sitting next to some chump who questions why I don't play the bonus bet of $1, where I can win and extra 10k when I get the royal flush. Ummmm, because when I do get that royal flush and win that extra 10k, I'll have already spent 650k getting there. I just wanted to have the number in my head

That's a very good answer and is the "right" play......well, maybe not playing LIR would be the "right" play. Anyway, I have never seen a royal flush on LIR. Queries to dealers about seeing one usually brings the answer "some other dealer dealt one a year or so ago..."

The wife plays ALOT of LIR, I sometimes play with her. We both play the dollar bonus as a matter of suicide prevention. If we ever DID hit the royal without the $1 out there it would send me into a fit of depression.

I think that $1 bonus bet wouldn't come into play with a royal. LIR table aggregates are usually around $25k on a $5 table....they won't pay out more than that, no matter what the bonus bet table says.

I like LIR...probably more than I should, because when I first played the game shortly after they offered it in Las Vegas back in the early 1990's, I hit 4 of a kind twice in the same weekend. The guy sitting next to me when I hit the first 4OAK said he invented the game for Shufflemaster. Really? The dealer said he was telling the truth. He told me LIR was a losing game for the players and a big winning game for the casino. He said he was playing to observe players' acceptance and enjoyment of the game in a live casino setting. I was dealt 3OAK in the hole and hit the 4th. He smiled and said "Sometimes people get lucky."
....and I've never see a royal at a LIR table. I saw a straight flush once.

The royal pays $1000 to $1 so even if you let all three $5 bets ride that's $15,000. If you let all three bets ride.
The $1 bet gets you $20,000 or the balance....I know, I know, but I'm a casino's bitch on this one, it's only a dollar.
I inquired about this locally (tribal).
Had the shift manager answer.
Told the bonus is considered a seperate game, also the 3 card poker side bet is considered a seperate game.

But, I did not trust the answer. ::::shrug:::

That casino usually spreads the game at $15 min bet.

Yeah I mostly a VP player, but sometimes I just want to hold cards in my hand so I either spend an hour on LIR or cheap Hold 'em games. I understand the suicide prevention argument (lol) but I still can't get past the numbers on how many of those $1 bets I will have made by the time I hit the royal. :-)

You may want to try Pai Gow poker.....it is a slow and social game where you can hold the cards. There is also a side bet with some crazy payouts, but you will push close to 50% of the hands so the money goes slowly. It is a great game in Vegas where the money goes slowly while they keep bringing free drinks!

You can also ask the dealer which way the house would play your cards if uncertain.
