PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker shut down by FBI

Is it the weekend already?

That ban on all political posts didn't last very long.

Yes I know, it's all the liberals fault that the conservatives were unable to hold their tongues. It's a shame that a rare interesting and informative thread like this one is in jeopardy of being blown up because of poor impulse control.

But hey, at least he kept his word and closed Guantanamo "in one years time".

I think the bill put before congress to kill internet gambling was sponsored by a Republican I think his name was Fitch. Maybe from Tennessee He attached it to a totally unrelated Bill that was being voted on. Don't quote me because it's been awhile since I read it. Maybe some of the more astute posters can confirm or correct me on who killed the internet gambling boom.
I'm done for the moment with this thread.

Some users find the need to turn everything political on this forum.

Good News for online poker players !

CNN Money reports: "Online poker players in the United States will be able to withdraw money from accounts associated with two Internet poker companies recently indicted for bank fraud and money laundering, federal authorities said Wednesday.
The U.S. government has agreed to allow PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, two of the three largest Internet poker companies, to resume use of domain names that had been shut down last week."

cjen3349 is essentially correct.

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA) "prohibits gambling businesses from knowingly accepting payments in connection with the participation of another person in a bet or wager that involves the use of the Internet and that is unlawful under any federal or state law." It excludes fantasy sports games.

The UIGEA was added to the Security and Accountability For Every Port Act of 2006 (SAFE Port) in the Conference Report to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the Bill. The Law passed by the House of Representatives by a vote of 409-2 and by the Senate by unanimous consent on September 30, 2006, the day before Congress adjourned.

Those given most credit for passing the UIGEA were Representatives Jim Leach (R-IA) and Robert Goodlatte (R-VA) and Senators Bill Frist (R-TN) and Jon Kyl (R-AZ).

Those Wascally Wepubwicans !

DISCLAIMER:
DonDiego has never, likely would never, and now, probably, will never engage in online poker. He opines that not being in the same room with one's card table opponents could allow much mischief; this is the only reason he chooses not to play. He agrees with the aphorism: "That Governement is best which governs least," and generally would argue against the Government interfering in voluntary activities among its citizens without just cause.

so in other words Nobama's shutting down of every major poker site in April 2011 is........the Republican's fault?
About a month ago, the right leaning members here were all over the administration for announcing they would no longer defend in court the Defense of Marraige Act. It seemed like they thought the Republic was doomed by this, even though there are hundreds odf similar decisions in the past by other administrations.
Now the administration is acting to stop what can only be descibed as blatant violations of the law and those same people are condeming him for enforcing the law.
Thats a word for people who think and act like that.
Allow the gays to marry, serve in the military and play online poker.

What does this political rant, and others similar to it, have to do with Online Poker and "Black Friday" as some poker players now call it?

Why do you insist on making everything political?

Toss in something about Religion and you'll hit the Quinella.
