We're going to fla. for ten days next week, 7 in pompano and last few days down in Marathon(wife has never been to the the keys). Has anyone been to the PC&R before? Anything cool about it, good restaurant not to miss or to avoid? I am bummed that I just noticed that the races don't start til the Sat. we leave, sucks, haven't been to the horse races in quite a while.
Or anything at all to add about Pompano in general, or Marathon for that matter. ........
Welcome to my part of the country.
Broward County is approximately 29 miles "north to south". Broward is host to quite a few casino's.
From the northern border going south, there are: Seminole Coconut Creek, Isle Casino (you called it Pompano. So do many locals.), Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, Seminole Classic Hollywood (1/4 mile from SHRC), Mardi Gras, Gulfstream Race, and than Calder is located a few yards into Dade county.
All have live poker, and decent poker rooms.
The Seminole Casino's have live BJ. They have electronic craps, roulette, and sic-bo. And, of course, lot's of slots and video poker. They currently have a "up to $100 loss rebate", however it's a mailed FSP coupon a week or two after your loss. Comp dollars are earned at $175 coin in = $1.00, to spend. No "cash back". Earn 8+ comp dollars, and 3 days later you get some auto loaded FSP. The SHRC has "high" minimums for BJ. No free alcohol. Soda, coffee, bottled water are about it.
The "Classic" next door is the "original" casino, has $5.00 BJ, and free drinks 24/7. Of course, it's definitely not as 'nice'. Some say the machines "pay better". They also have a decent breakfast buffet (By coincidence, I was there early this morning for the first time in many months!) at $5.99. Includes an omelet station and nice preparation. You also receive $10.00 FSP when you purchase you breakfast buffet. I'm not certain if the FSP deal is until 10am or if it ends earlier. You will need a players club card, and all the Seminole Casinos "share". I had a "monster" breakfast about 7:30 am, and still have not eaten again as I write this.
Seminole Coconut Creek has the nicest buffet, and is "clean" or more modern. The players club is "electronic self serve", but there are attendants to help. Kind neat.
The Seminole Casino's have quite a selection of up to date slots. But the "penny" slots often are set at higher minimums, without the usual "select 1,10,20,50,100 lines" options.
The Isle: Nice buffet. Very nice poker room. I believe there is a "new player sign up bonus".
The Mardi Gras: old dog track, remodeled. New player sign up bonus. Also ACG coupon and you can use both.
Gulfstream: Have not been there recently. Did have bonus for sign up. May have horse racing live, now.
Calder: Another track that may have live racing. May have sign up bonus.
All the tracks - racino's have simulcasting and wagering.
In Miami (about 75 minute drive from the Isle) is the world famous Hialeah racetrak casino. They've just opened their casino last month, and had a generous offer for new members. Show your player's card from another casino, and receive up to $100.00 FSP (based on card level). I believe that it's "local" casino cards.
I do not "play machines" or BJ, except for rate occasions. I sometimes play VP. So I am hesitant to write anything about the machines at any facility. But the selection at Hialeah sucked big time. All of them have an abundant selection, with 2500+ advertised at SHRC, etc.
IF you have a car, check you ACG for coupons. And take advantage of the SHRC loss rebate offer, which is auto loaded to you account once you get the coupon. Perhaps someone else could redeem it. (That possibility may have changed and the coupon may have to be presented first. I don't know at this time.)
I will not recommend any of the casino restaurants. I do not believe I've ever eaten at any of them! LOL But the buffet at the Isle, and Seminole Coconut Creek for lunch - dinner is pretty good. The Classic breakfast buffet is a real bargain because of the custom omelets and FSP.
IF you do decide to make a casino run, start south and work your way back toward Pompano. And there is probably live racing, somewhere.
