The Pope . . .

Maliber ignores the part of the speech where the pope calls for the sanctity (no abortions) of human life.

Pope? Nope.

Dope? Yep.

I wonder if the Pope gave Obama a sports jersey with #1 on it....

Just so there is no misunderstanding, how about a direct quote?

"The Golden Rule also reminds us of our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development. This conviction has led me, from the beginning of my ministry, to advocate at different levels for the global abolition of the death penalty."

Forky - C'mon .... you are not trying to imply the Pope is pro-abortion and pro-planned parenthood - are you?

HuffPo Article where Pope "Blasts" abortion

Francis issued a strong anti-abortion message and cited Vatican teaching on the need to defend the unborn during an audience with Catholic gynecologists....Francis denounced today's "throw-away culture" that justifies disposing of lives, and said doctors in particular had been forced into situations where they are called to "not respect life."

"Every child that isn't born, but is unjustly condemned to be aborted, has the face of Jesus Christ, has the face of the Lord," he said.

He urged the gynecologists to abide by their consciences and help bring lives into the world. "Things have a price and can be for sale, but people have a dignity that is priceless and worth far more than things," he said.

The pope smote John Boehner.
Again, I have watched, read or heard not one second of the pope and no disrespect given...I have no opinion about him as a person, no clue any thoughts or wisdom. I would prefer a religious leader use scripture (and even then we all pick and choose which parts we agree with) when giving speeches and sermons and not their opinions....but as for the above mentioned quote about the golden rule being about protecting and defending human rights at every stage of its development, I disagree about the death penalty....if I become so evil that I do an evil thing, please do unto me as I have done unto others and put me down. I don't want to live that way anyway. So no, anyone given the death penalty for being pure evil, please put them out of their misery, it has to be a horrible life to lead. While demented, I just watched that True Detective first season. I don't actually watch that type stuff, but liked the cast. Interesting portrayal on how people become demented. I also think this type of "entertainment" is destroying our consciousness. Not many are going to watch through my social worker eyes.

As for abortion, not too passionate on this either, but as a child of teen mom....I also advocate that it is better to allow a woman to have an abortion if she so desires rather than bear a child to neglect, abuse and torture said child....I also advocate that women give the child to a loving home, but again, we can't make others make the choices we would make...we can only put the options and information on the table. I would never choose personally to have an abortion (well, that is not true, not sure I would bring a handicapped person in world due to quality of life, if I knew for sure that person would be a vegetable), but each person in life makes their own decisions based on the needs and circumstance of their own situation...and that can also be right or wrong morally that is why it says the judgment will be at the pearly gates and not before. But I don't want people without morals bringing children into their demented world either. That is a very sad world to be born into. In the end, God will bring the people and situations exactly where he wants them, so there is that.

The Bible is making this conversation possible and has had a lasting impact on society, so that in and of itself speaks.
Daisy - you had a very thoughtful and heartfelt response.

In respect to Abortion, I believe our Government has time and time again stopped reasonable restrictions on abortions like:

1) Allowing abortions in the 3rd trimester where the infant is viable
2) Forcing the doctors to kill babies that are born alive in the 3rd trimester through some failure of the abortion process
3) Funding an organization that sells baby parts harvested from babies that are born alive with legs kicking and hearts beating

I cannot imagine anyone with a heart advocating for ANY of the above - but our leaders in Washington sure are. I think this is part of the dignity of life of which the Pope speaks.

Nope, but at least he's consistent. You know, not like folks like you who think that life begins at conception and ends at birth.

The Pope opposes the death penalty, supports climate sanity, supports helping refugees and immigrants, supports prison reforms, and wants governments and the wealthy to contriubute to the health of all people, even the poor ones. You know, protecting and defending human life "AT EVERY STAGE OF ITS DEVELOPMENT." Not for you, huh jphelan?

And of course the Pope apparently supports the Catholic ban on condoms, in vitro fertilization, safe and legal abortions, and birth control pills. So I'd prefer Pope Bernie, but you can't have everything.
Forky:

Do you support:

1) Allowing abortions in the 3rd trimester where the infant is viable
2) Forcing the doctors to kill babies that are born alive in the 3rd trimester through some failure of the abortion process
3) Funding an organization that sells baby parts harvested from babies that are born alive with legs kicking and hearts beating

If so - I will accept you, but question your morality.
