Posting a new topic or responding in forums.

There has been discussions about purchasing laptops in this forum recently. I wrote that I had to purchase a Windows laptop because Apple prices were out of my reach. Here's the rub. I haven't been able to respond or post in this forum using Internet Explorer. I can do a quick response and that's all. I downloaded Google Chrome to post this topic. In the past I had the same problem. In the text box there is a small red x in the upper left corner and I can't type anything in the text box. I had this problem before and asked Dale( the forum administrator) and he wasn't able to help me. I thought with a new clean install of I.E. and a new laptop I wouldn't have this problem. For all you computer gurus out there, do you have a solution? Please don't tell me to use a different browser. I have been using I.E. forever. If I must I'll use Chrome but I use I.E. for my browsing and it's a pain to use a different browser just for this forum.

Thanks,

Adam
Try Firefox.......you wont ever go back to IE...........I just use it all the time.
I agree, Firefox is the one to use.
Why such loyalty to an inferior product? Firefox is way better than IE.

Once upon a time, in the early - mid 80's, I acquired my first Windows based PC. I became very "loyal" to MS, and strongly resisted any applications from other vendors. I "thought" that only using MS software would prevent any problems.

Evolution happened. I am still using Windows. (7 Ultimate now) But, I am no longer "loyal" to Microsoft. I am on their "developers" list, and got Win 7 Ultimate free. I'll probably get Win 8 free as well, as I've received every Win version free since '98'.

Otherwise, I now resist MS where possible.

I use Firefox for my browser of choice. (I also have Google & IE installed) Thunderbird (mozilla) for email. I use Open Office for "business" apps, and I use "open source" software for everything else, except the basics OS. Everything else. Very little of the bundled software in Windows, on my computer, ever or rarely gets used.

Firefox is a great browser.

And for practical purposes, in the current "browser war", they are all, mostly, comparable.

Once you try Firefox, and customize it with a few apps, you should be hooked.

That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

btw: I've very recently started learning and experimenting with live cd version's of Linux Ubuntu & Mint. I suspect I'll be MS free within a year.

The beauty of Linux and Open Source is that almost all software is FREE.

If you have a spare 100GB on your hard dive you can install Ubuntu/Mint with dual boot. If you install Windows and then install Ubuntu/Mint over top it will automatically partition the drive and give you dual boot option.

Thanks Snidely....

Not enough HD space at the moment because I split the original drive to hold a full system backup done automatically every day.

Once I "learn" Linux, and decide whether I prefer Mint or Unbuntu, I'll re-think my options.

Also, if I decide a "new" laptop is an option, I'd just convert the "old" one to Linux.

At this stage, I'm too wishy washy and undecided whether I want a new laptop, a tablet, a smart phone, build a desktop, get an external usb drive of 1TB or more, etc. I'm resisting making decisions until I see what 2012 is bringing in the tech sector, and for prices to drop even more.

Being single and living alone, I can not seem to justify having so much technology. I can only use one at a time. LOL

I have IE at home and post here all the time using IE. At work I use Firefox for all of my personal web browsing
O.K. so Karen doesn't have the same problem as me.Thanks Karen for rersponding.Everyone else so far has said use a different browser. I'm still hoping for an answer about using I.E. here. Thanks for your input so far.
OK. I am posting this from IE 9.

I do seem to have some "difficulties". The "quick reply" was not displayed. And it seemed slower loading the pages to get here.

Can't help with the specifics, IE is not important to me. As others have said, there are far better browsers.
