Power ball/mega millions odds.

We had a million dollar winner in the town next to me, and Nassau County had eight third prize winners. One report said they won $100,000 each, and another said they won $50,000 so I'm not sure which is right.
Either one could have been right. Depends if they played the multiplier or not. I didn't (and never do) play that option so I don't know what that was for the last draw.

Convenience stores here have window signs that have the jackpots (in millions of dollars) for the state lottery, Mega Millions and Power Ball showing in lit up LED numbers. The signs only have 3 spaces for the numbers, so those signs are showing the Power Ball jackpot at $999 million. It looks like no one thought any of the jackpots would ever top a billion dollars.

Like parimutuel wagering. When you see a horse is paying 99 to 1 on the tote board you know it is currently paying in excess of 100 to 1.

$50,000

While Im no math geek, but why wouldnt buying more than one ticket better your chances? With each succeeding pick, youve eliminated one set of numbers, its not like a coin flip where each flip is completely random. The only way I see it not increasing your chances is if you bought all the same numbers, which of course would be stupid.
I drive to Vegas this Thursday. If for some reason this doesn't hit tomorrow, I will briefly stop in Primm to see how many people from Nevada are waiting in line to buy tickets.
Do you have to buy the power number for the extra $1 to win the jackpot?

In short, no. You can win the big prize for $2.

Powerball and Powerplay

They sell lottery tickets in Primm? I thought you had to go to Nipton, which is another twenty minutes or so.
