Pre-Packaged Food Serving Sizes

Okay, I'd like to know who figures out the serving sizes of prepackaged food, like frozen pizza.

Do they get bonuses for bringing the calories per serving size to a certain level?

I noticed when I cooked a Red Baron pizza last week and a Safeway/Tom Thumb Select pizza today, they both said they contained five servings.

Who has ever cut a round pizza into five servings? Six seems to be more logical.

Also, a can of soda states two servings. How many people share a can of soda.

I know there are other examples, I just can't remember them now.

I don't see what you see.

I bought a Lean Cuisine not long ago and kept thinking wow this really good and a lot of food and then I read the package. It said 2 servings.
My general rule is, if it's one package, it's one serving. Or less.

sounds legit.

I can tell you definitively that there is only one serving in a pint of Ben and Jerry's.

It's marketing.

The number of servings is often increased beyond a reasonable amount to keep the RDA percentages low. The more servings, the smaller the numbers per serving.

If you looked at nutritional information on a label and it contained more of the Recommended Daily Allowances of sodium or saturated fat (per serving) than you wanted, you might not buy the product. And, they really want you to buy the product.

A PP quote from video at bottom.
Her dilemma with the portion size in Pop Tarts.
Very funny.
