All this proves is that the Republicans had a better security system than the Democrats. Any conclusions regarding Russian motive beyond that is pure speculation

Well, it matters. But let's not forget that the Russians have "tampered" with and tried to influence every US presidential election since the 1950's.

On occasion the result was what they wished for.

Yet it is the crux of the issue. In no prior Presidential election was fake news that was produced by Macedonian teenagers in the employ of a foreign government given the top billing on the platform where most people received their news. In no prior election did the Russian government pull an electronic Watergate of the DNC and were urged to do so at the enthusiastic request of the Republican candidate himself. I could go on with more examples, but the bottom line is technology has dramatically changed and you can’t compare what went on in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s or even the 00’s to what happened this last election. It is simply unprecedented.
