Question for the VP Gurus ?

Typically, when playing a "progressive" VP game the paytable will be downgraded from 9/6 to 8/5.
Can someone please provide the minimum jackpot amounts for.25 and $ 1.00 VP that are necessary to make the downgrade equivalent to the 9/6 EV.
Thanks.
I guess you are specifically referring to JoB, since you mention 9/6 as full pay?
I was actually referring to BPdlx. (which is what I "normally" play).

I guess what I'm asking ( I'm no VP wizard !) is:

"At what point should I consider playing the "progressive" when it's 8/5 instead of 9/6 "non-prorgessive".
(Hope this makes some sense)
Here's a couple of generalizations that should help.

One unit of either FH or flush is usually close to 1% of the overall return. The RF is usually about 2% of the overall return.

So, if you cut both the FH and flush by one that reduces the return by 2%. It would then take a doubling of the RF amount to equal this reduction.

OK...so "generally"..going from 9/6 to 8/5 a $.25 VP 'progressive' should be $2000 or better (which I've seen lots)
but on a $1 VP the jackpot would have to be $8000 (which I haven't seen very often)
If I have this correct...then
Thanks Arc
Just lookin' for some "general" guidelines.
However, that wouldn't make the game "equivalent." The expectation would be moved from the more common payouts to the less common. There would be some small strategy changes that would change your variance, somewhat.
Marcus... understood. However, "generally" speaking I'm therefore "better off" playing a 9/6 game rather than an 8/5 game unless the "progressive" has reached approximatley doulble on the jackpot payout.
At "that" point the EV then becomes "close" to a 100% game. (yes/no ??).

I do realize that this is "highly" dependent on that I actually "hit" the "royal / jackpot".
hahahahahahahahahaha LOL
(well, it has happened a few times !)

Imagine these 2 games to take things to extremes:

$1 VP game were the only thing that paid was a RF but it paid $45,000. (high variance game)
$1 JOB game with 11/9 payout but the RF only pays ~$400*. *adjust this to make the EV equal to the game above. (low variance game)

Assume both these games have the same EV.

From a strict EV perspective, two games might be equivalent but as Mr.M points out, just because EV is equal doesn't make the games the same.

At a certain point, you want to make some strategy changes to go for the royal more often if the RF gets up to a certain level.

This isn't exactly what you were looking for, but with a little math it will tell you the same thing:
