"As seen on TV"

I'm betting the Eden Pure on "high" is 1500W and puts out 5120 BTU's of heat. No different than any other space heater.
The Amish angle in the Chinese built Amish Heat Surge though is brilliant marketing genius.
I'm not believing the mantles are built in a barn's loft by Amish families.
I just thought of another product that I can write about here which I'll will give great reviews, however, it is not "As seen on TV." At any rate it is a Slingbox which I bought at Best Buy for $189. It connects to my home TV and router and transmits my TV signal to any internet device. The best part about the Slingbox is that there is no monthly service charge. I'm able to watch my home TV anywhere, anytime. In addition, I also bought the iphone app for the Slingbox ($30) for which I can also watch my home TV on my iphone. I never miss my favorite sports games on TV. The Slingbox has a virtual remote controller which changes the channel, records shows, changes the volumes, turns on/off the TV, or whatever else can be done with the real remote control device. Slingbox also has the app for Android devices as well.

Both of those heaters are a rip off. They both provide 1500 watts of heat which is the same as most hair dryers and most of the $20 electric fan heaters. Why pay $300-$400 for a hand built "mantle".

Both do a pretty damn good job of heating a room. I like the Eden Pure between the 2 of them as it is easy to move around and heats up pretty quick.

You ever play around with either of them? I have, and they work quite well. It's nice to have the elements buried inside the housing instead of being exposed.

Chef,

Yes I have used one of them, not sure which one, and the only thing I was impressed with was how quiet it worked. But if there is no fan blowing the heated air around, just a heat lamp inside a plastic container, I would expect it to be quiet. BTW, Consumer Reports reports that they stop working within a year or two (when the heat lamp bulb quits perhaps) and they can't be repaired cheaply. I've had the same electric space heater I paid $20 for for the last 15 years.

As a test I have actually put a 1500 watt hairdryer in a 10X10 ft room and checked how long it would take to increase the temperature by 10 degrees. I believe it was somewhere around 45 minutes give or take 15 minutes. It's been a while, but I don't think the $300 heaters could do it any faster since they are the same wattage.

But to each their own.

One hit and one flop i can think of. The "ove gloves" were and are a tremendous hit. The flop were the "tater gloves" or whatever the name. They were the latex gloves with abrasive flecks on them that peels potatos under the running tap. PFFFT! Didn't work for crapor shit,or dooty, whatever the preference.

I will agree that to replace the bulbs are going to be a major pain as no one as of yet has a replacement cost for them. However, they are supposed to be rated for 10 years. I don't know what consumer reports had to say, but they (Eden Pure) must be doing something right as I've seen at least 5 different types of counterfeit ones out there this year.

On your test, try this: take a 1500 watt hair dryer, turn it on and stand 15 feet away from it. If you can feel heat from your feet to about mid chest, that's about what they typically put out.

I do agree $300 - $400 for a "space heater" is a bit much. I rather not pay the retail price and get them for wholesale if possible.
