"A Day Without Immigrants", . . .

"A Day to Thumb Your Nose at Your Job and look like a hero." Or so they thought.

Kudos to the bosses who fired the no-shows, whether they were immigrants or citizens.

I don't fall on my sword for anybody.

Be an activist for a cause, but don't disrespect your job, your customers, your boss.
You know the day the "Snowflakes" fear the most??? "Day Without Right Hand".

A total of 60 people were reportedly fired in a nationwide civil protest of a nation without immigrants. And countless other businesses (the ones not run by dicks) stood by the people whose sweat makes their business run. Its nice to see most employers appreciate their workers and their plight.

Roundup of the event nationwide.

in any event - the protestors seem to have got their message across. it got DonDiego worked up enough to start a thread about it on a Las Vegas Message Board. Mission accomplished.
I tried to pick up my drycleaning, get my wife a pedicure, and get a slurpee on the way home. I was screwed

By now pjstroh should know DonDiego wasn't worked up over this matter. DonDiego is a noticeably calm fellow, and he likes to keep the interested readers, if any, on the LVA Fora informed.

Unless one sees a statement with at least 3 exclamation-points, one may safely assume poor old DonDiego is not worked up. And even then he may not be worked up.
[Oopsie !]
Best I can tell, Alabama experienced about 2% more spoilage in the field than normal. That might have been because the crop was about 15% higher than the historical average.

Ask Alabama what happens when you have a workforce without immigrants. They found out the hard way in 2011 when their thoughtful government passed legislation that booted them out of the state. It sure made the Confederate flag waivers happy...but as for the farmers? Not so much.

Crops rotted in the fields with nobody to tend them

Alabama has since rolled back their common sense approach to illegal immigration enforcement. Turns out there wasn't much sense to it.

I agree. That'll assure that no companies hire illegals. I love your thinking, Billy!

Here is hoping those businesses get visited by the labor department to find out what those people's immigration status was, and if the company was paying taxes on them.

If people weren't hiring people, people wouldn't come.
Do we fight the war on drugs by going after users or dealers? Its crazy to deport someone if the next day he's simply replaced by another person working off the books.
Who is screwing us more? A dishwasher or the guy who hires a dozen dishwashers and twice as many bus boys? The dishwasher is doing it to try and make a better life, the owner hires him out of greed and not wanting to pay taxes.
Who deserves to be punished more?
"Who deserves to be punished more?" The answer is obvious if you really want to stop illegal immigration. That's not what anyone in power really wants. This (a wall, Executive orders, more border agents ) is theater for the dull witted. Mandatory everify with criminal penalties for employers would reverse the magnet overnight. But not only is that not going to happen, it's not even going to be discussed. Why is that?
