Young Outsiders
This relatively young, largely independent group holds a mix of conservative and liberal views. And while more lean toward the Republican Party than the Democratic Party, Young Outsiders express unfavorable opinions of both major parties. They are skeptical of activist government; a substantial majority views government as wasteful and inefficient. Yet they diverge from the two conservative typology groups – Steadfast Conservatives and Business Conservatives – in their strong support for the environment and many liberal social policies.
Government aid to the poor does more harm than good DonDiego would say "aid can do more harm than good, . . . because
i. it can dis-incentivize people to become productive
ii. it can lead to muti-generational dependency.
Government can’t afford to do much more to help the needy DonDiego would prefer the Government activity in many areas of its citizens' lives were reduced. Supplying the able needy with whatever they require with no prospect of self-improvement on their part is wasteful and unfair. In any case the Government cannot afford to continue to spend what it spends on everything; continual deficit spending leads to economic disaster. DonDiego opines the disaster is quite near; the present experiment in manipulating interest rates may be a precipitate cause.
Homosexuality should be accepted by society None of DonDiego's or the Government's business. Just let people live their lives as they choose..
Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost Some regulations may be worth the cost; some regulations may not be worth the cost. F'rinstance the Federal requirement for ethanol in gasoline is i. outrageously expensive and ii. possibly more damaging to the environment than doing nothing.
Use of marijuana should be legal None of DonDiego's or the Government's business - other than where marijuana may impare one's performance in, f'rinstance, driving as does alcohol. Just let people live their lives as they choose. n.b.If the use of hard drugs affected only the user DonDiego would say even that is none of his business, but it has much broader effects.
Social Characteristics
• A large majority of Young Outsiders (81%) think "poor people today have it easy because they can get government benefits without doing anything in return." DonDiego agrees with the sentiment, but recognizes exceptions. When individuals can actually earn a living advocating for additional Government transfers of taxpayers' monies into welfare benefits, things have gone way too far.
• Only 42% of this group say they follow what’s going on in politics and government most of the time, and just 30% know that Democrats have a majority in the Senate and that Republicans control the House. DonDiego follows things pretty closely. Oh, and he knows that since 2015 Republicans hold a majority in both the Senate and the House.
• Young Outsiders are one of the youngest typology groups; 30% are under 30 and most are under 50. DonDiego is over 50. There is little he can do to rectify this situation.
• About three-quarters (73%) are non-Hispanic whites, and about as many are male (48%) as female (52%). DonDiego is an Irish/German/Polish/English white. There is little he can do to rectify this situation.
• Just 25% of this group say they attend religious services at least weekly. DonDiego does not accept the overall catechism of any organized church. He does recognize the positive influences of some church teachings. He does not attend church services regularly. Because he loves his wife he has no objection to attending occasionally and, especially, for some holidays or special events - like, f'rinstance the baptism of his granddaughter.
