"The Quad"?????? Formerly known as O'Sheas.....have the inmates taken over the asylum?

Just answered a survey this morning from Harrah's about what I thought of a new casino named "The Quad", in the area where O'Sheas used to stand. BTW, drove by there yesterday, and the former O'Sheas is stripped down to the skeleton of the building.

Anyway, the survey for "The Quad" asked what I thought of the name (I think it's dull and without character), then started asking me to rate ideas for the casino. Here were the options:

1. Open lounges with big/oversized couches to encourage socializing

2. Beer pong tournaments

3. Pop-up restaurants (i,e,, temporary/limited availability outlets featuring local and/or up and coming chefs)

4. Provide photo booths throughout the property connected to screens that stream guest photos. Guests could also upload these photos to Facebook directly from the photo booth.

5. Public auditions to be a dealertainer.

6. Sponsor a local roller derby

7. Print Tic-tac-toe and Hangman game boards on cocktail napkins

8. Telephones on gaming tables throughout the property that connect to each other to stimulate conversation

9. Interactive and artistic installations

10. A scavenger hunt throughout the property

The illustrations they provided showed just a few slot machines off to the side. That's when I realized - they aren't wanting to build a casino, they want instead a college recreation room! Even the name "The Quad" sounds like something you'd find on a college campus. Have CET's execs really lost their mind? Replace O'Sheas with a college rec room?

Of the above, I really think only #3 and #5 have merit, with probably #2 in there as well for the younger crowd. As to the rest, hasn't anyone at CET read the local papers and seen how well the Cosmo business model is doing as a casino? It loses $50-$60 million per quarter.

Seriously, who do they have in charge of this project? I get that they want to be "hip" and "trendy", but aren't they a casino company first? For a company that does so well in identifying their customers, I think they've gone way off track with these ideas.
They don't want to build a Cosmo. They want to build a "cool dive" for the 20-somethings. It's not hip and trendy. It's kind of like shabby and trendy for the poorer kids that like beer pong and cheap beer. Everything but number 8 sounds like fun. The pop-up restaurants are like the food trucks we had in college.

Think of the women. If you're 21 and a woman and don't want to dress up like a hooker and hang will the hotties at Cosmo or the other nice casinos on that side of the street on Saturday night, where will you fit in in Vegas? You could go to Harrah's or Flamingo but they are full of old people. You want a place where you can have fun like you do/did in college. I think this Quad theme is a great idea. Hey, at least it's different.

Don't get me wrong - I see what they're trying to do, and I'm sure the younger (and cheaper) crowd would have a blast like they do at Cosmo. However, I think that O'Sheas was one thing that CET actually had right - cheap drinks, low table limits, beer pong, a leprechaun, and the place was always packed.

That model actually works, and worked especially well for the younger crowd while it was open - people always seemed to be having a blast in there. My wife has a couple of friends that when they come to town, they always insist on meeting us there.

I just think it's a mistake to move away from what made O'Sheas work, and move instead to a plan that has shown itself to be unprofitable.
They should have a dunking booth with women in bikini's and if they you dunk them then you get a free jello shot.

Except for #6, it sounds like a fun concept. Obviously, they're looking for a new concept that will somehow compliment the ling (sp) and other changes.
Change is tough and sometimes one needs to give it time to work.
That must be the survey that some of couldn't get to give us the questions, glad I didn't get it, a waste of my time.
