The "resort fee" ripoff escalates..

MGM properties have no free self or valet parking & Caesars have high resort fees now ($35.84 with tax). I think its better to go with other hotels with lower or no resort fees. Doesn't matter if the hotel is not in the Strip.

I have not looked into it very closely but I am led to believe that the root cause of resort fees are the on-line booking sites'. "Charge" a very low room rate to get to the top of the search list on the booking site then get your "true" room rate with a resort fee after the booking.
Should not the blame be shifted to the booking sites? If the booking sites had listed the true, end price of the room in their search by price would these resort fees have ever reared their ugly heads? I am told that some sites are now listing the resort fees in their search criteria. Will this render the fees unneeded, or is it too late?

Not totally true. It's the hotels that set the price listed for the rooms. In an interview with Derek Stevens a little over a year ago, he said he was putting in the Resort Fee so his hotel would stay on Page 1 on the online websites. I can't search for the site wit this cheap tablet I'm using but it's Podcast #93 or 97 where he makes this statement.

I found the interview. It's on the Vegas Gang Podcast #93. I can't post the link, but you can Google it if you want to listen to it.
