R.I.P Sports Authority Field

The naming rights for Mile High Stadium, home of the World Champion Denver Broncos are likely to come onto the market soon:
"Sports Authority Inc. filed for bankruptcy Wednesday after failing to exploit the fitness boom that’s been a rare bright spot in retail. To reorganize, it says it will try to benefit from something else: tax law.
The company has fallen far since a $1.3 billion buyout in 2006 piled it with debt. The company said in a statement following the bankruptcy filing in Delaware that it will close as many as 140 of its 463 locations. In court papers outlining its reorganization strategy, Sports Authority said it will proceed cautiously when trying to sell assets, in order to preserve $124 million in tax reductions."

Bloomberg further reports: "Chain wrestled with debt as rival Dick’s added stores."

Ahh, . . . the old rival dicks excuse.
The location nearest me is a great one. It is located in one of the numerous shopping strips adjacent to the largest mall in Wa state, so traffic is not a problem. The store went through about three incarnations prior to becoming a Sports Authority. The last may have been a buyout, but I don't recall. The one constant I noticed no matter who's sign was out front was the lack of customers inside. I only made it in a few times a year, but the only time it was busy came the first year the Hawks went to the SB. I'm just suprised it lasted this long.

Good Luck!

Years ago, I was in a SA with a friend who wanted to but a $2500 treadmill. The cashier said that you could get 10% off if you opened a store charge. He didn't qualify so I opened one and he gave me the difference in cash. It was set to be delivered in a week. I return home from a road trip to find a treadmill set up in my living room. I call my friend to tell him they d delivered it to my house by mistake but he already has his, as well. I call the number on the receipt and am told they only have one charged. They tell me I should go back to the store if I have an issue. At the store, they tell me I can return it or pay $150 for them to come get it.They don't get that they delivered it but didn't charge me for it. A month goes by and no Bill comes. I call the card and am told the item was returned and no payments are due or owed. I have a $2500 treadmill, my friend has a $2500 treadmill, and they say we owe nothing.
It's a wonder they lasted as long as they did.
This past weekend I bought a boogie board from them for $84. Sad to see them go but in Los Angeles we have Big 5 sporting goods, Dicks sporting goods, Sports Chalet, Bass Pro (San Bernadino), etc. The only one we don't have is Cabelas.

I don't condone cheating any business. If I get too much change or don't get charged for something I point it out. In this case, you did everything you could to right the situation. Acts like this are no doubt part of the reason for their current situation.

Years ago I had booked a stay and play golf deal at the Oasis in Mesquite. It was a room for two and golf. We had three so needed a third pass for golf. The desk clerk three times tried to only charge for the package for two and room for the third. I explained she wasn't charging greens fees for the third person. She insisted she had done it right, so after the third try I gave up and took the extra golf coupon. We got to the course, I'm thinking karma so I try to pay for the third and am told as long as we have the coup, everything is good! Sometimes you can only do so much.

Good Luck!
