Radio Shack Ad From 1991

A 286 PC with a 20 meg hard drive cost $1599.00. Think about it that computer would hold less than 10 mp3's.

A portable cd player is $159.99.

Your smartphone could replace just about all 15 items in the ad.

You could play DOOM on that motha ! Thats worth the pricetag alone. I'd shovel out $1500 today for a PC that would let me play all my old Windows 3.1/95 games
I still have my doom game. I never could kill that final room, and I sure as hell tried..

I'm pretty sure i've got duke nukem layin' around here somewhere.

I finished Doom. The last room is intense. I finished Duke Nukem and Leisure Suit Larry ITLOTLL, too.

But the first game I played was around 1986; a text only game based on The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I could never collect enough pocket lint to finish the game.

They said on TV today that if you had to buy everything your iPhone could do, it would cost over $15000.
Hitchhiker's Guide was one tough game. I could never get very far in that. Kind of lost interest in text-based games after that one.
Kind of fun to remember what things cost back then. Thanks for the thread and link!
Have you ever tried "God Mode" just to get through that final room. If not try this

New report from 1981 about that new fangled thing called the Internet.

Wish I had known that then. I'm afraid to think of how much time I put into that game and if I did know, I'd surely be embarrassed to say the amount to anyone

PJ,

I have a Tandy 1000 RL/HD with monitor and printer. According to wikipedia, it runs at a whopping 9 MHZ and has an eye poping 512 kb of RAM.
